Time catches up with all of us eventually – slowly, in the case of Charles Hills’ brilliant eight-year-old EQUILATERAL.
He’s earned connections a cool £453,865 in his many years as a top-level sprinter and isn’t showing signs of slowing down just yet.
In fact, you could easily argue that his second in the G2 Betfred Temple Stakes over course and distance last time out, when beaten just a length by Dramatised, was a career best.
This represents a marked drop in class but race conditions – track, trip, ground – remain the same, so frankly I’m surprised the son of Equiano is as big a price as he is currently.
You’d have to be somewhat fearful of Edward Bethell’s Regional, but this is a step up in class for him and he could find it all a bit too much.
The booking of Ryan Moore on Prince Of Pillo makes him a threat too, but ultimately I think Equilateral has the beating of these and represents a cracking bet at current odds.
As I said, time always prevails – which is hopefully the case in the G3 Lester Piggott Stakes at 3.00!
Harry & Roger Charlton are in fantastic form, operating at an incredible strike rate of 33% with four wins from their last 12 runners, which bodes extremely well for Frankel filly TIME LOCK.
She ended her three-year-old campaign with a brilliant second to Haskoy, who has since franked the form big style, and reappeared this term with another pleasing second in Listed company at Goodwood, which should put her spot on for this.
Modaara could be anything but she’s beaten nothing of substance to date, while I expect the selection to have the beating on Mimikyu based on a piece of form at Haydock in June last year.
The latter won narrowly that day, but she was in receipt of 6lbs. On Saturday, Time Lock gets 5lbs which should be more than enough to see her win that battle.
I make her the one to beat and a cracking bet at current odds.
