We’ve a decent card at Haydock Park to enjoy on Thursday 6th July – and I’ve got a couple of tips for the occasion.

Julie Camacho is a fantastic trainer, especially when it comes to sprinters. That, plus the fact she’s operating at an impressive strike rate of 27% with three winners from her last 11 runners, means SIGNIFICANTLY is of great interest for the 0-85 handicap over 6f at 4.10.
The five-year-old son of Garswood was rated 105 at his peak when under the stewardship of Karl Burke, but after a poor 2022 which saw his mark drop all the way down to 88 he was sent to Camacho in the hope that new surroundings would see him return to something like.
It’s too early to say if that’s going to be the case, but his seasonal reappearance and first outing for new connections – when only beaten a length off top-weight in a competitive handicap at Ayr in May – was very promising indeed.
As a horse who tends to need the run, he should come on for it massively and be ready to strike here off 1lbs lower for a team in red-hot form.
Just over half-an-hour later is a 2yo novice stakes over 7f, which sees Godolphin unleash a typically well-bred son of Dubawi called Hidden Pass.
He’ll have his supporters, as will some of the other eye-catching types in this eight-strong field, but I’m inclined to go with the form angle provided by Andrew Balding’s JUANTORENA.
This Havana Gold colt ran more than respectably in what looks a strong Newbury maiden last month, going down just under 3L to Richard Hannon’s Group 1-entered Rosallion and Tom Dascombe’s Bigbertiebassett who was a comfortable winner of a fair contest at Doncaster the other day.
That’s the best form on offer and it’s fair to say he should improve big time for he was very green and finished particularly well when seemingly getting the hang of things.
There’s always a chance one of the newbies from powerful yards are too good, but at current prices I just have to side with the selection.
