Seven races from Yarmouth on Wednesday afternoon, 1.45 – 4.55pm. Often dubbed a kind of Newmarket-by-the-sea as many trainers raid from that area, but we’ve also got the likes of David Evans and Mick/David Easterby chasing prize-money, too.
All makes for what should be an enthralling afternoon’s sport by the seaside.
We’ve got 5 handicaps, a restricted novice, and a maiden. Team Gosden run one in the latter, a filly (Without Remorse) who ran very green on her only racecourse appearance to date at Newbury. Credit for selecting Newbury for that initial run – that and her address more than hint at the presence of ability – and she might well know a lot more this time around.
It’s competitive midweek fare, and winners will doubtless know they’ve been in a battle.
Rossa Ryan and Luke Morris are among the bigger-name jocks on view. Let’s see if they figure among the likely types I hope can run well for us on Wednesday.
Selections;
2.20 Good Humour
Comfortable winner here off a mark of 46 – and has the revised figure of 53 to defy on Wednesday.
Jonathan Fisher gets on very well with the horse and can claim his 5lb here, which is very handy in reducing that additional burden. It was a 50/1 shock last time but the manner of the victory was far more assured than the price might suggest.
The horse is six now and has flown much higher in the past. If he’s recaptured a little of that old sparkle there could be more wins to come.
4.20 Cariad
Drops a grade after a good effort last time at Nottingham over slightly further, and the drop could help this Cityscape filly.
Has won races for trainer George Scott and is very experienced for a 3-yr-old. The filly is evidently in good heart and I’m with her on Wednesday.
Enjoy your afternoon’s racing from Yarmouth, scene of a very enjoyable holiday many moons ago. Bowling on the front. As you do. Good luck!
