There is afternoon racing from Great Yarmouth on Wednesday, with seven races scheduled on the Norfolk turf.
They run from 13:50 to 17:00, and the card includes Betfred’s Extra Place offer, with us paying 3 Places instead of 2 for Each Way bets at 1/5 the odds in a handicap contest at 14:20.
Diamondonthehill could be the one to watch in that, while another Michael Dods’ inmate also has claims, as does an improving mare from Sheena West’s yard.
Great Yarmouth Betting Tips:
Date: Wednesday 14th June
Time: First race at 13:50
Location: Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
14:20 – Diamondonthehill @ 9/2
The Extra Place race looks like a decent Handicap, but by no means one that will prove too much for DIAMONDONTHEHILL, who seems to be getting better with each start this season.
Defeats at Thirsk and Ripon were far from shameful, and he produced his best showing when last seen finishing third at Doncaster on June 2.
The five-year-old goes over the same 1m trip here and should have no problems, with two of his three career scores coming over the distance and the odd one out coming over the slightly shorter 7f.
His most recent success was at Redcar last August and came on the similar forecast Good to Firm going, suggesting things are falling into place for Dods’ gelding.
Fantasy Believer could also be a target after a recent Newmarket second, but Diamondonthehill seems to have too much in his favour and is well worth a look, especially with that Extra Place on the agenda as a potential consolation.
15:25 – Sparkling Red @ 5/2
Oisin Murphy is on board Diamondonthehill and also pilots a fellow Dods’ runner, SPARKLING RED, in another Handicap at 15:25, but this time over 5f.
Sparkling Red is just one of four declared and comes in hot after May’s win at Redcar under Connor Beasley.
Beasley has been in good form over recent months, but few can match Murphy’s class in the saddle, and he will want to bounce back after a barren afternoon at Salisbury on Tuesday.
There should be competition from recent Newbury hero Champagne Sarah, although she has some to prove under a penalty.
Terrimia will also be fancied as she drops in class for both her seasonal reappearance and Handicap bow after 306 days away, but the feeling is that it could be a Sparkling afternoon for the Murphy-Dods combination.
16:00 – Gearing’s Point @ 5/4
GEARING’S POINT was third to Gilbert at Windsor on June 5 but may just reverse the form with his conqueror under a penalty here.
The pair were split by Urban Forest in a driving finish last Monday, with just a neck between the trio and that extra weight could make the difference.
A win at Lingfield and a pair of placings demonstrate real progress since Gearing’s Point joined West’s yard from Mick Channon, where the mare was winless in six runs.
That’s no slight on Channon, but the Lewes handler seems to have a feel for this mare, and she can call upon Frederick Larson to ride, who, as of writing, has a 30 per cent hit rate in his last 10 rides, including guiding Johnny James home in his sole race at Southwell on Tuesday.
Gilbert will, of course, have a solid chance, while Persian Wolf and Lailah also carry claims.
