Google Updating Gambling Policy to Allow DFS Ads in Certain States

Google announced it is updating its gambling and games policy to allow daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators in certain states to run ads. The Alphabet-owned company revealed the change on Monday; it goes into effect on July 15.

DFS ads will be permitted in Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

need certification from Google first

The rule notes that an operator needs a license in at least one state if it wants to run ads in a jurisdiction that doesn’t require a license to offer DFS services. Advertisers who want to start running ads need certification from Google first.

A similar change will see lottery couriers soon be able to promote their services through Google in more than 30 states. With these platforms, people who are not physically present in a certain state can still buy tickets for local draws.

Google Ads used to typically only accept ads for state-run lotteries and horse racing planforms.
