Friday evening fare at beautiful Goodwood – six races, 5.15pm – 8.10pm. The apprentices are in the spotlight – for the whole evening – such a great opportunity to impress.
Course form is always extra-important on the Downs, so that will certainly be a part of my deliberations. So much depends at Goodwood on track craft, taking gaps when they appear, and keeping out of mischief.
Let’s see if we can spot a couple who can run well for us tonight (Friday).
Selections;
5.15 Nonsuch Lad
The excellent Benoit De La Sayette takes the ride here, and the horse ran a cracker at Sandown off this mark last time, under Buick. Same grade, similar trip, and trained by Jim Boyle, based at Epsom – a similarly undulating, quirky, challenging test like Goodwood.
This will be his third run since reappearing for the season, and his turn could come tonight.
7.0 Zoukster
Unashamedly going for another apprentice from the very top drawer here in Billy Loughnane. Trainer Ed Walker’s charge won last time at Salisbury under Tom Marquand with some authority, and must carry a 6lb penalty as a consequence.
But that was only his second run after being gelded, and a bit of improvement could well be on the cards too for the extra furlong encountered here.
Have a lovely evening’s fun, take care, and good luck.
