The Caddys Golf Tips

This week, the DP World Tour heads across the Irish Sea for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, West Course, Virginia Water, Surrey, England.

The 144-player field will all be competing for a share of the $9M prize purse. The winner will receive the BMW PGA Championship title and a winner’s cheque for $1.5M.

Shane Lowry returns to defend the title he won last year, narrowly defeating both Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm by one shot. His winning scorecard read 271, -17.

After last week’s success at the Irish Open, where Vincent Norrman was tipped by The Caddy at 45/1, the summer has seen eight outright winners. Notable tips include Brian Harman winning The Open Championship at 110/1 and Lucas Glover winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship at 95/1.

The West Course at Wentworth will be playing 7,267 yards long this week; it’s a par 72 Parkland layout. Accuracy and approach play will determine the 2023 BMW PGA Championship winner.

A hot putter will also come in handy.

The weather is forecast to be sunny and pleasant on Thursday and Friday, with showers expected over the weekend. Breezes will peak at no more than 12mph.

This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event, with live coverage starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

BMW PGA Championship Betting Tips

Viktor Hovland 7/1 EW PaddyPower

For my first & main selection at Wentworth, I’m looking no further than Viktor Hovland 7/1 EW PaddyPower.

Yip before any trolls pounce, this pick isn’t exactly rocket science, it’s more just common sense. My job is to pick out winners so I can’t allow the prices which I don’t make up to influence me when doing my homework although as you all know I do try my best to stay away from favourites, sometimes you just can’t. This is a classic case in my book. Nobody is riding a golfing surf wave at the moment quite like Viktor.

Hovland is hovering around everywhere he plays these days & this week at Wentworth will be no different. If you saw the 25-year-old Norwegian kid at the recent Fed Ex Cup playoffs especially the BMW & Tour Championships where he won both, he was unplayable & this is amongst the world’s golfing elite.

Winner also this year at the Memorial Tournament along with runner-up at the US PGA Championship, Hovland is far from finished in 2023 & has more trophies on his mind before the year is out. Last year at Wentworth Hovland was hovering about once again & could have won this but eventually has to settle for T5th in the end just a couple of shots off the pace. This tree-lined West Course at Wentworth is all set up for Viktor’s game & with the way he’s playing at the moment he’ll take some stopping, that’s if anyone can get even near him that is.

Shane Lowry 18/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places

For my NB selection to win the BMW PGA Championship, I’m going to recommend Shane Lowry 18/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places. The 36-year-old Irishman & defending champion hasn’t finished outside the Top 20 around Wentworth at the last half dozen attempts & I don’t expect him to disappoint this time either. That trend looks set to continue especially arriving fresh on the back of an amazing effort last weekend in his homeland where he finished T3rd at the Irish Open in Co Kildare.

With three Top 20 finishes at majors this year it’s clear for all to see that it’s the big events that get Lowry excited & defending his title this week will be no different, this flagship event always seems to bring out the best in him.

It requires wizardry with the short game around Wentworth & long accurate ball striking will also help where Lowry ranks 8th on the PGA Tour for Total Driving. The major winning Irishman can get back to winning ways with his first victory since bagging the W here last year with a back-to-back winning BMW PGA Champion performance.

Min Woo Lee 28/1 EW William Hill 1-8 places

For my final pick in England this week I’m going to point you all in the direction of Min Woo Lee 28/1 EW William Hill 1-8 places. The 25-year-old Aussie Kid is all over my radar at the moment & another victory could be imminent. T7th at the Irish Open last weekend after a lengthy layoff is even more evidence to suggest Min Woo arrives at Wentworth with form.

Before last week at The K Club, the Aussie hadn’t been seen since finishing 41st at The Open Championship. It’s been another good year for Min Woo Lee, Despite not winning a tournament his best performance so far was runner-up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship but T6th at The Players Championship was also a tremendous effort. The one that sticks out for me was T5th at The US Open with another Top 10 finish at the Travelers Championship with T18th at the USPGA Championship also worth noting. Min Woo Lee is an all-rounder on the golf course but the dance floors are his specialty.

It’s on these slick greens where this tournament could be won or lost & there is nobody better to rely on in this department than the Aussie whizz kid. Min Woo Lee could shoot down all the big guns at Wentworth this week with another visit to the winner’s enclosure & that means we’ll all be following.
