Germany vs Spain Odds – Host Germany Open as Slight Favorites in Euro Quarters

  • A heavyweight quarterfinal tilt between host Germany and Spain is scheduled for Friday, July 5, at MHPArena in Stuttgart
  • Germany haven’t beaten Spain since 2015, going 0-3-1 in four games since
  • See the opening Germany vs Spain odds for the Euro 2024 quarterfinals

A match worthy of the Euro 2024 final will instead take place in the quarters as host Germany get set to host title-contender Spain at MHPArena in Stuttgart on Friday, July 5. Germany ousted rival Denmark 2-0 on Saturday, while Spain came back to beat upstart Georgia 4-1 on Sunday to set up the massive quarterfinal clash.

The opening Germany vs Spain odds favor the Germans by the slimmest of margins.

Despite a coneringly bland performance to date – which left them just 90 seconds away from elimination against Slovakia – England remain the favorites in the Euro 2024 odds at +350, largely because they are on the opposite side of the draw as Spain (+400), Germany (+450), France (+650), Portugal (+750). The second-favorite from England’s side of the draw is the Netherlands, who are +1100 longshots.

Germany Outlasts Denmark to Reach Quarterfinals

Germany looked to have a dream start versus Denmark on Saturday, getting a goal from Nico Schlotterback just three minutes into the game, but it was wiped out due to a foul and the teams went to the second half scoreless. Turnabout was fair play as Denmark had its own goal erased by VAR due to offside early in the second half. Just minutes laters, Kai Havertz would convert a penalty after a Denmark handball in the box. Havertz’s goal would stand up as the winner and Jamal Musiala would add an insurance marker in the 68th minutes for a 2-0 victory.

Germany finished with 2.40 xGF on 14 shots (nine on target) while Denmark had just 1.04 xGF on 10 shots (two on target).

Germany and Spain have played four matches since 2018. Three ended in 1-1 draws, while the other was a memorable 6-0 Spain victory in the UEFA Nations League on Nov. 17, 2020, Germany’s largest-ever defeat in a competitive fixture. Ferran Torres scored a hattrick.

Spain Survive Scare from Georgia

Spain was the only team to go 3-0-0 in the group stage and was the only team that didn’t concede a goal. But their shutout streak came to an end early against Georgia as the upset-minded underdogs took a 1-0 on a Robin Le Normand own goal in the 17th minute. Spain would answer back on a seeing-eye strike from Rodri in the 38th and then blitzed the Georgians with three goals in the second half en route to a 4-1 win.

Spain controlled 74% of possession against overmatched Georgia and finished the game with an absurd 34 shots (13 on target) and a 13-3 edge in corners. Georgia didn’t force Unai Simon into a save the entire match.
