When it comes to the latest Georgia sports betting news, there has been nothing but negative updates that have come in. Things were officially shut down for the 2023 betting hopes, as things were shot down by the state senate earlier this spring. Now, it seems like the earliest we could see sports betting arrive is in 2025. However, this means that Georgia is working to eliminate illegal sports betting activity as much as possible.
This isn’t an easy task, though, as we’re also seeing plenty of illegal bets being placed on college athletics. This is a major concern not only for state officials, but people at high levels in universities as well. This was brought to light after it was revealed that a lot of illegal bets were placed on SEC baseball, including the Georgia Bulldogs. Officials for the Bulldogs want to see this get taken care of – while also preventing it from happening in the future.
“It’s a growing emphasis for us,” said Georgia deputy athletic director for legal and regulatory affairs Will Lawler said via Online Athens. “Not so much on just the compliance end but just the education end and the mental health. The two primary interests are obviously the integrity of the game but also the student-athletes’ mental health. It’s just become so much more commonplace in the world.”
Lawler makes a great point, as he also doesn’t want to see any student-athletes making sports wagers at any point in the year. As a whole, the illegal activity most definitely is a concern for the state and things are only going to get worse now that legal activity won’t be allowed for the next few years. Only time will tell if officials can get on the same page soon, but things don’t look good here.

People in Georgia are furious they can’t bet on Bulldogs football this fall
One of the biggest takeaways from the latest update, though, is that people in Georgia are furious they can’t bet on Bulldogs football this fall. As soon as it was announced that the Georgia sports betting bill wasn’t passed, folks all over the state know that they won’t be able to put their money down on UGA as the team hopes to go for their third consecutive National Championship win.
What Kirby Smart and Co. have been able to do in recent seasons has been out of this world. Not only did this team take home the crown in January of 2022, but they were able to do so this past January as well. With the team returning so many different starters, people are high on the Bulldogs potentially recording a three-peat. If they’re able to do this, then Smart will certainly be on top of the college football world.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, Georgia holds +220 odds to win the natty once again. They’re not the only team with strong NCAAF betting odds, as Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU and others will be ready to make a huge splash this fall and winter. From our chair, though, it looks like the Bulldogs will have what it takes to make history.
This is something that people all over Georgia would love to be a part of from a betting standpoint, but they won’t be able to legally do so inside of state lines. Sports fans are going to have to travel to nearby states where betting is authorized if they want to get in on the betting action for the Bulldogs. This is something that the local citizens are hoping can get changed as soon as possible.

No MLB betting will also haunt Georgia this fall
In addition to no football wagers, no MLB betting will also haunt Georgia this fall. That’s because the Atlanta Braves are looking like one of the best teams in the major leagues right now. Atlanta holds the No. 2 World Series betting odds, sitting right behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves are one of the most popular teams in the bigs and they have a fantastic record to back things up right now.
If betting was legal in Georgia these days, there’s no question at all that people would be checking the odds left and right to bet on the Braves. Not only that, but Ronald Acuna Jr. is the favorite to win NL MVP. Acuna is a fan favorite and a true star both at the plate and in the outfield. He’s currently third in the majors in batting average. If he finishes the season No. 1, then it will only help his chances.
Later this summer/fall too, the Braves will be pushing for an NL East crown plus the NL pennant. If this team gets back to the World Series, then the betting action will be through the roof for the club. However, people in Georgia won’t be able to get in on the World Series fun from a betting standpoint. That fact sucks to even think about.
