Galway Summer Festival Day 6 Tips: Saturday’s selections from Ballybrit

Galway Racecourse Flat

The marathon that is Galway’s Summer Festival continues on Saturday with another mixed card that gets underway at 13:55 and concludes shortly after the final of eight races at 17:55.

It looks typically-tricky, but I’ve managed to pick out a couple of Galway Summer Festival Day 6 tips for your consideration.

Galway Summer Festival Day 6 Tips

  • 13:55 – Apple’s Of Bresil @ 5/2
  • 15:40 – Thequietman @ 13/8

13:55 – Apple’s Of Bresil @ 5/2

The opener at Galway on Saturday is a maiden hurdle over 2m1f that’s attracted 20 runners.

Henry de Bromhead’s Jasko Des Dames heads the betting at time of publication and if he can rediscover his winter form, he’s the one they all have to beat. However, his last couple of efforts were dire and he lacks fitness having been off the track for over three months.

Likewise, the Gordon Elliott-trained Arabian Diamond hasn’t seen a racecourse in almost a year and other market principals Hipop De Loire and Jackfinbar for the out-of-form Willie Mullins are in the same boat.

One who is race-fit and has strong claims is Barry Connell’s APPLE’S OF BRESIL.

The six-year-old has already had a spin over hurdles, at Leopardstown during the Christmas period, but he bumped into comfortably the best novice hurdler of the season – Mullins’ Ballyburn, who went on to hose up in the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Either side of that he posted some solid performances in bumpers, including a victory at Sligo just under four weeks ago. It wasn’t flashy, but ultimately he got the job done in a messy race.

I feel the selection has as much natural ability as anything in this field, but he’ll need to jump a lot better than he did at Punchestown. I’m sure he’s done plenty of schooling since and he should find it a lot easier on this surface. He’s got a great chance.

Today’s Horse Races

15:40 – Thequietman @ 13/8

My other selection is THEQUIETMAN for this flat maiden over an extended mile.

Joseph O’Brien’s three-year-old son of Farhh finished second on his debut at Leopardstown back in April in what has since proved to be a hot maiden. The winner, Ecureuil, is now rated 100 having placed in a couple of Group 3 contests, the third-placed Autumn Winter subsequently ran respectably in a handicap at Royal Ascot off a mark of 86 – and Total Look, who came fourth, has won since too.

This is easily the best form on offer as far as I’m concerned, with Dermot Weld’s Newton Duke the selection’s main rival. Weld is in poor form, though, so that’s enough to put me off him.

You couldn’t rule out the likes of Vadali and Flying Bay with certainty, but providing Thequietman is in good shape after his 118-day layoff, he is the one to beat for me.
