Freiburg vs Olympiakos Prediction: Hosts to secure knockout place

 | November 29 |

2 mins read

Freiburg will be hoping to secure a place in the Europa League knockout rounds when they welcome Olympiakos to Europa-Park Stadion on Thursday night.

A draw would be enough for the hosts to qualify, while the visitors know that they need all three points to keep their hopes alive of securing a top-two finish in Group A.

Freiburg vs Olympiakos Prediction

  • Freiburg to win @ 5/6
  • Vincenzo Grifo to score anytime @ 13/8

Team News

Freiburg’s extensive injury list includes Christian Gunter, Lukas Kubler, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Max Rosenfelder, Maximilian Philipp and Yannik Keitel, while Roland Sallai will have a thigh problem assessed ahead of kick-off.

As for Olympiakos, Nicolas Freire, Jackson Porozo, Gustavo Scarpa and Doron Leidner all remain sidelined through injury.

Match Odds

Freiburg are favourites for the match at 5/6, with Olympiakos 3/1 to claim the three points, and the draw is 11/4.

The reverse fixture between the sides saw Freiburg win 3-2, and a repeat of that scoreline is 20/1, while both teams to score is priced up 4/6.

Freiburg to win @ 5/6

I think there could be plenty of goals in this contest, given the five-goal thriller we saw in the reverse fixture on matchday one.

Freiburg have gone four-straight league matches without a win, claiming just two points from a possible 12 since a 2-1 victory over Bochum on October 21.

However, the Europa League could provide a welcomed distraction, where the hosts have won three of their four matches and are tied on nine points with West Ham United at the top of Group A.

The onus will be on Olympiakos to take the game to Freiburg, which could leave the Greek side vulnerable at the back.

Vincenzo Grifo to score anytime @ 13/8

The Italian winger has seven goals in 18 appearances for the German outfit this term, including four in four in the Europa League.

The 30-year-old bagged a hat-trick against Backa Topola on matchday three to take him to the top of the competition’s goalscoring standings – along with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro – and 13/8 looks good value here.
