Football Bet of the Day: Uruguay to win and Nunez to score in 9/1 shot
In the early hours of Sunday morning (02:00), a Copa America quarter-final is taking place between Uruguay and Brazil, which will be broadcast live on Premier Sports 1. Marcelo Bielsa’s La Celeste have been very good so far as they stormed the group stage with a maximum nine points.
Brazil on the other hand won just one of their three fixtures drawing the other two. Momentum is with Uruguay ahead of this clash in Nevada. It is from this match that my football bet of the day comes.

For my selection I have put together a three-legged bet builder using Betfred’s #PickYourPunt feature. The combined selections are valued at an enticing 9/1 and I think they offer great value for this clash.
Off the bat is for Uruguay to win in 90 minutes. You may think this is bold considering they are facing Brazil, but this is not the Selecao we are used to. They have some good players but they are not the almighty force they were once considered – just ask former icon Ronaldinho his thoughts on this current crop.
Their group stage performance wasn’t great. They showed signs of life in their 4-1 win over Paraguay but with the greatest respect to Paraguay, they were expected to win comfortably. It was their draw with Costa Rica that was concerning as that was their chance to fire a warning to their rivals but they didn’t.
The stalemate with Colombia was fair enough because Los Cafeteros have been solid at the Copa America so far and they had guaranteed their place in the quarter-finals after two matches. The onus was on the Selecao to attack in their matchday three meeting but they still had to settle for the point, which of course was all they needed to progress.
However, they haven’t emerged from that group with much credit, and the other teams in the tournament certainly won’t be fearing them. Uruguay have confidence and momentum on their side, and I think they have more than enough quality to win this quarter-final match in regulation time.
After all, Brazil’s star man Vinicius Jr. is suspended, so his influence will be a great loss to his team, while being a huge boost for La Celeste.
The second leg is for Darwin Nunez to score anytime. The striker has had a tough time of it at club level with Liverpool, but if you get him in a Uruguay shirt he always seems to deliver.
He has been in impressive form in the USA so far with two goals in three outings, and he will be out for more goals before the tournament ends. Against a Brazil side that are not looking their best, I do think he can profit.
Nunez has let fly 13 shots at the tournament so far and five of those have been on target. He has accrued an xG of 1.74, and he will be hoping that he can continue to outperform this statistic.
Brazil have only conceded twice at the Copa America but the only opponent of note they have faced is Colombia and their defence was breached – and even Paraguay managed to score against them. The Uruguay forward is sure to give their back line a torrid time and I am confident that he will get on the scoresheet.
The final leg is for Lucas Paqueta to have three shots, and if you’re reading this Lucas, we appreciate the support but you don’t want to get into any more trouble.
The Brazilian midfielder has a habit for taking shots from distance and he has been very busy at this tournament already. Paqueta has registered nine shots in three matches, with just one on target. That one on target did produce a goal, however, against Paraguay in the 4-1 win.
He is averaging three shots a game so I am backing him to keep this trend going on Sunday.
