Football Bet of the Day: More home comforts for Hacken against ailing Elfsborg

All eyes this Sunday are seemingly on the Euro 2024 Final in Berlin between Spain and England – but not in this column, where I take us off to Goteborg, Sweden for my football bet of the day.

The match in question sees Hacken host Elfsborg in Allsvenskan, the Swedish top-flight, with both sides hitting the halfway point of a 30-game campaign at the Bravida Arena (15:30).

Football Odds

Hacken are 1/1 just to win at home on Sunday, which in itself represents great value, in my opinion.

The 2022 champions came third in Allsvenskan last season, only seven points behind winners Malmo, and have made a solid if unspectacular start to the current campaign, collecting 23 points from their first 14 games to sit fourth heading into the weekend.

After topping the home table last year, amassing 42 points at the Bravida Arena – six more than their nearest challengers Malmo (36) – Hacken have won four of their opening seven home matches, losing twice and drawing the other to the reigning champions, who are seven points clear at the top.

The Wasps won their only competitive home game last month, thrashing AIK Stockholm 4-1, and have won two of their last three at the Bravida Arena.

Elfsborg, meanwhile, trail Hacken by four points heading into Sunday’s contest, despite only missing out on last season’s title on goal difference.

The Yellow Ones beat Brommapojkarna 3-0 last weekend but had lost their last two, and three of their previous four, before that victory at home.

Their away form has been particularly concerning, with Elfsborg winning just one out of seven on their travels – their first away trip of the season at Vasteras SK (0-1) on April 7 – and losing their next six.

Hacken also won the corresponding fixture 3-1 last season to complete a league double over their opponents, so taking all of the above into account, I’m surprised they are EVS just to win on Sunday.

For Sunday’s football bet of the day, however, I’m looking to add a few goals into the mix, and by backing a Hacken victory and over 2.5 total goals, we can boost the odds to 13/8.

There are several reasons to support Sunday’s football bet of the day.

Firstly, Hacken’s league matches this term average 3.5 goals per game – only AIK Stockholm (4.08), Norrkoping (3.92) and Kalmar (3.69) average a greater number. They are the third-highest scorers in the division with 26 goals, but despite their lofty standing, only five more clubs have shipped more than their total of 23 goals.

There have been at least three goals in Hacken’s last nine league matches – four of which they have won – while six of their seven at home have seen over 2.5 goals land.

Meanwhile, Elfsborg’s games average 3.14 goals and four of their six away defeats have seen at least three goals scored. They will hope that last Sunday’s victory can push them in the right direction after an uncertain start, but I don’t see Hacken helping them out in Goteborg, and they could suffer another painful loss this weekend.
