Football Bet of the Day: Hosts to maintain unbeaten record
The only unbeaten team at home in the MLS defend their record on Thursday as the New York Red Bulls play host to CF Montreal at the Red Bull Arena.
Both teams still have something to play for in the final few weeks of the season, with the hosts aiming to secure home-field advantage for the opening round of the play-offs, while Montreal are still hoping to sneak into the post-season.
Read on for my football bet of the day for Thursday, July 18.
Football Bet of the Day – Thursday, July 18
- New York Red Bulls to win to nil vs CF Montreal @ 6/4
Sandro Schwarz’s troops are fourth in the Eastern Conference and they are in good form ahead of Thursday’s encounter.
Last week’s 1-1 draw away to the Colorado Rapids extended the Red Bulls’ unbeaten record to six matches in the MLS, and they are proving difficult to beat of late.
While five of those matches have ended in a draw, Schwarz’s team are showing resilience and bundles of determination as the regular season reaches its conclusion.
While the Red Bulls are not blowing teams away, they have already eclipsed their record from last season. They have already netted 37 goals this year, more than they netted over the entirety of the previous campaign, and they have delivered the goods in front of their own supporters.
The Red Bulls are unbeaten in 10 at home, winning six of those ties. They have only conceded seven goals at home all season, which has only been bettered by Columbus Crew in the whole MLS.
If this game was taking place in Montreal, we might be looking to swerve this contest, with LE CFM unbeaten in seven in front of their own fans.
However, on the road, they are winless in 10, and they have only won two of their 12 games on the road. In those 12 games on their travels, Montreal have conceded 30 goals, which is only bettered by the San Jose Earthquakes, who have let in 34 goals.
The Red Bull Arena has not been a happy hunting ground for Montreal over the years, as they have lost 12 of their 14 league matches against the Red Bulls in the regular season.
Red Bull’s win rate against Montreal is the highest for any team at home against another in MLS history, with a minimum of 10 games played.
While Red Bull have been a little inconsistent at home in front of goal, they should have too much for a Montreal side that have proven throughout the campaign that they do not travel well.
