Football Bet of the Day: England U21s to qualify at Israel’s expense

Football Bet of the Day: England U21s to qualify at Israel’s expense

England Under-21s will get the chance to book their place in the knockout rounds of the 2023 European Championships, but they may not have it all their own way against Israel U21s.

After their 2-0 win over the Czech Republic, England are in pole position in Group C, but they need to be wary of Israel’s U21s, who held Germany to a 1-1 draw earlier this week.

Lee Carsley’s side are as short as 2/7 to grab the victory, but if Israel can reproduce a similar performance from their first fixture, England may need to show plenty of patience and composure in Kutaisi.

Two teams that know plenty about each other collide in Georgia on Sunday. Nearly 12 months ago, England U19s and Israel U19s competed in the final of the European Championships, with the Three Lions running out 3-1 winners thanks to extra-time goals from Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Ramsey.

The pair were not included in Carsley’s squad for these Euros, but their former team-mates will need to be at their best in order to overcome The Young Chosen team in an international tournament once again.

Carsley’s men may have won their opening game 2-0, but they could have made the scoreline even more comfortable, although consistency has been a recent issue for the Young Lions.

They have lost two of their previous three in all competitions, and at U21 level, England have a dire record at the European Championships. Carsley’s troops are looking to avoid a sixth group-stage exit from their last seven appearances at the Under-21 Euros, but the current group appears that they can handle the pressure.

Football Betting Odds

England U21s have scored in 17 of their last 18 matches, although Israel showed against Germany that they will be no pushovers. They played 45 minutes of their 1-1 draw with 10 men after Eden Kartsev was shown a second yellow card but still managed to secure a share of the spoils.

Guy Luzon’s side may not keep a clean sheet, having only kept one in six, but they are unlikely to be on the wrong side of a heavy defeat either.

England have a capable squad that is capable of going all the way, but warm-up defeats to Croatia and Japan suggest they are far from the finished product.

Israel will put plenty of bodies behind the ball and try to counter England throughout the 90 minutes, and it should mean we get a low-scoring encounter on Sunday evening.
