Group E returns on Sunday afternoon as the Faroe Islands host Moldova at 5pm. It promises to be an intriguing clash, and the away side need all three points to give themselves genuine hope of reaching Euro 2024.
Faroe Islands vs Moldova tips:
Moldova to win
This market feels completely wrong on paper. Faroe Islands, having lost their last three qualifiers, including both home matches, are 6/4 favourites to beat a Moldova side who have lost one of four, and beaten Poland. It just doesn’t add up to me, and that means there’s incredible value on offer across the board.
The straight Moldova win is a healthy 21/10 which is worth backing, given they have just beaten Poland 2-0 and got a respectable 1-1 draw with group leaders Austria. They only had 24% possession in that draw, but having taken the lead in the third minute, that is to be expected. They certainly have enough to get past the Faroe Islands.
Moldova to win to nil
Moldova limited the Faroe Islands to just two shots on target the last time they met, and the 1-1 draw is potentially why we are getting such good value this time around. It seems the bookies have ignored recent form and that has opened the door for us to take advantage.
In the four games since that opening day draw, the Faroe Islands have scored just once. They’ve drawn blanks against North Macedonia, Poland and Czech Republic and their one goal in a 3-1 defeat to Albania came from two shots on target.
This is a side with limited attacking threat and if Moldova limited Austria to just one goal, they can certainly keep the Faroe Islands at bay. 7/2 for them to win this tight encounter to nil certainly looks worthy of consideration.
Faroe Islands 0-2 Moldova
This is just a pick based on what we have discussed so far. We believe that Moldova can keep the Faroe Islands at bay, will keep a clean sheet and win the game in the process. Therefore, we can pick out an exact scoreline that sees them win the game to nil for extra value.
Moldova have scored four goals in their past two games, including three in that brilliant comeback win over Poland. They seem to have found their groove in front of goal against sides far superior to the Faroe Islands, so we’re comfortable backing them to score twice here, with no response. The price of 14/1 makes this pick one to punt on.
