Everton vs Newcastle Prediction: Gordon to make former club pay
The last of the Amazon Prime Premier League games take place on Thursday night, with the first taking place at Goodison Park, where Everton host Newcastle United. We’ve previewed the game as always and given you our best betting predictions.
Everton vs Newcastle Betting Tips
What a job Eddie Howe is doing at Newcastle despite trying circumstances, with half of his current first team squad out injured.
Despite that, the Magpies have won three of their last four games, with impressive wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Next up, it’s a trip to Merseyside, where an Everton side await with a siege-mentality, after their 10-point deduction for breaching Premier League fair-play rules.
Sean Dyche’s outfit have officially appealed against the verdict but need to carry on picking up points and fast, before a relegation battle becomes a reality.
Team news
Dominic Calvert-Lewin should return for the Toffees, after missing out against Nottingham Forest. Amadou Onana will be a late assessment though, following a troubling calf injury.
Those pale into insignificance though compared to Newcastle’s injury list, with Howe having as many as 13 players unavailable. Nick Pope was the latest to be added to the treatment table, after suffering a complicated shoulder dislocation in the win over Man Utd.
Anthony Gordon should be fit to play against his boyhood club, after recovering from bruising sustained against United.
Match odds
The home side are slight underdogs for this one at 21/10, with the visitors priced at 5/4. The draw is available at 12/5, if you fancy a closely run affair.
Goals are expected with over 2.5 at 5/6 at the time of writing. Meanwhile, both teams to score also looks likely with BTTS Yes at 4/6.
Newcastle to win and Both Teams To Score – 16/5
United look like a seriously good team right now and are defying the sporting gods, who have thrown injury after injury at them.
The 1-0 win at home against the other United, was the biggest single-goal drubbing I’ve seen in recent years and could easily have been 3 or 4 nil.
Yes, Everton picked up a vital three points against Forest, thanks to a hammer of a left foot from Dwight McNeil but they appear to be of inferior quality to the north east side and looked terrible against the Red Devils, after the 10-point deduction had been announced.
However, Newcastle have kept just one clean sheet in their last five games in all competitions and I expect to see Everton at least trouble the scorers here.
Anthony Gordon to score anytime – 5/2
I started this article and visions of a shirtless Anthony Gordon wouldn’t leave my mind ( I know, I know!).
It’s just written in the stars that on his return to Goodison, one of the players of the season in the Premier League will bag another important goal against his former club.
The 22-year-old struggled to adjust to life on Tyneside, after his massive £45m move but this season has been a whole new ballgame, scoring six top flight goals from just 13 games, which has propelled the winger into Gareth Southgate’s thoughts of making the Euro 2024 squad.
I’ll certainly be having a little pocket change on Gordon adding to that tally on Thursday night.
