England vs New Zealand Prediction: Buttler to deliver captain’s knock

England vs New Zealand Prediction: Buttler to deliver captain’s knock

  • By Admin

New Zealand pulled themselves back into contention in their ongoing T20 series with England last time out, recording a 74-run thrashing at Edgbaston, and they have the opportunity to level the four-match series at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

England lead 2-1 heading into the final match of the series and there will be a number of players looking to cement their spots in the ODI World Cup squad with strong performances in the match.

England v New Zealand Betting Tips

  • Jos Buttler top England runscorer @ 18/5
  • Ish Sodhi top New Zealand wicket-taker @ 16/5

After a seven-wicket success and a 95-run win, England looked to have this T20 series in the bag before everything changed at Edgbaston, where New Zealand took the initiative.

England were poor in all departments in Birmingham and must now save their series as they head to Nottingham, while the news that Brydon Carse has since been added to the England squad for the ODI series with New Zealand suggests more squad changes could be on the horizon.

Jos Buttler top England run scorer @ 18/5

Sunday’s 74-run defeat to New Zealand ranks as one of England’s heaviest T20 losses when batting second and there are plenty of questions to be answered heading into the fourth and final match of the series.

England were sloppy in the field with a dropped catch and a missed run-out, but they have also struggled at the crease, having slipped to 55-4 in the ninth over last time out.

Dawid Malan has had a tough series, Harry Book underperformed with a knock of eight in the third T20 and openers Will Jacks and Jonny Bairstow scored only 23 between them.

That left it to Jos Buttler to dig deep and the England captain responded with a respectable knock of 40 off 21 balls.

In the T20 World Cup last year, Buttler was England’s top runscorer with 225 runs, while he also impressed in The Hundred, racking up 391 runs for Manchester Originals.

He is a reliable source of runs at five in the order and with the top order faltering, he could be called into action earlier than usual at Trent Bridge.

With that in mind, Buttler could be a value bet at 18/5 to top score for the hosts.

Ish Sodhi top New Zealand wicket-taker @ 16/5

New Zealand capitalised on a flat pitch at Edgbaston on Sunday to rack up 202 runs on their way to their 74-run victory but it was also a pitch which offered a lot to the spinners on display.

One player in particular who capitalised was leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, who finished with figures of 3-33 from four overs, dismissing Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook and Chris Jordan.

That took Sodhi’s wicket tally in this T20 series to six in three matches and he has 124 wickets to his name for New Zealand in T20 internationals.

At 16/5, he could be a fine bet to be New Zealand’s top wicket-taker.
