Dundee vs Celtic: Back the Bhoys on Boxing Day
There’s just one game from the Scottish Premiership on Boxing Day as Dundee host Celtic at Dens Park.
Betfred’s in-form tipster Frank Monkhouse previews…
Dundee welcomes Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to Dens Park on Boxing Day for a game you can follow live on Sky Sports from 3:00 pm. The visitors are favourites to win and continue their push for another title, but Brendan Rodgers’ side can take nothing for granted in the City of Discovery.
Tuesday will be the second time these sides have met this season, with the Hoops easing to a comfortable 3-0 victory at home back in September. Goals from David Turnbull, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Matt O’Riley won the points that day, but the victors didn’t break the deadlock until early in the second half. Will fans witness repeat or revenge in this renewal?
Team News
Dundee enjoyed a decent start to the season, but their form dipped during a hectic December schedule. The locals have blown hot and cold this month, drawing with Motherwell in a six-goal thriller, taking the lead at Ibrox before losing 3-1 and beating Ross County in the highlands. That victory over the Staggies proved Tony Docherty’s side has the stomach for a fight, and they’ll require more of that resilience on Boxing Day.
Celtic remains on course to successfully defend the Premiership title, but the team has endured a few challenging moments in December, including suffering back-to-back defeats. The Bhoys crashed out of the Champions League, watched on from the sidelines as Rangers took the League Cup, and were embarrassed at home by Hearts. They have a title race on their hands and must respond accordingly.
Dundee vs Celtic Odds
The pre-match betting odds on Dundee vs Celtic are available on the Betfred mobile app and website, but which team do you favour? Both sides have had mixed results in recent weeks, but Betfred traders have set up in the visitor’s camp, making them the hot favourites to take three points back to Glasgow.
Will this game meet the expectations of the professionals, or will we witness some Christmas magic for Dundee and its fans? You can back Dundee to win before a bumper audience at 8/1 or follow the form and take Celtic for victory at 2/9. A draw would likely suit the hosts more than the visitors, and you can wager on a level finish at 9/2.
Bet 1: Over 2.5 goals @ 8/15
Tuesday’s game is unpredictable, given the time of year, the occasion, and the pressure both teams are under following an unconvincing run of results. We’ll keep it simple and follow the trends, backing over 2.5 goals, which will do a job in your midweek accumulators. Backing over 2.5 goals would’ve landed you a profit in each of these teams’ last four meetings, a run stretching back to 2019.
Bet 2: Celtic win and both score @ 15/8
In those four games, Celtic have four wins, starting with a 6-0 at home, followed by a 4-2 win on the road, 3-2 and 3-0 home victories. We fancy more of the same at Dens Park, with plenty of goals in an entertaining away win. Dundee will want to be competitive and put on a show. Celtic’s recent record suggests the hosts will get chances to score, and it’s up to the locals to take advantage.
