DraftKings To Open Wrigley Field Location, But Not For Betting — Yet

DraftKings Sportsbook announced Tuesday that it will take its first step toward debuting its sportsbook at one of the most historic ballparks in the U.S. when it opens its facility at Wrigley Field next week as a sports lounge only — for now.

While DraftKings has a retail sportsbook at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis and is licensed for digital wagering through that partnership, it must get an additional license to operate at Wrigley Field, home of Major League Baseball‘s Chicago Cubs.

The Wrigley Field facility, which is adjacent to the ballpark, will open June 27 with food-and-beverage service, and patrons will get a look at the 2,000-square-foot video screen, which can show up to 25 games at once.

There “isn’t a bad seat in the house” at the two-story venue, according to a DraftKings press release. The facility includes theater-style seating on two levels, as well as other seating options, but there is no direct access to Wrigley Field from the venue.

Food service will be provided by Levy, the Cubs’ food-and-beverage partner.

“We’re excited for this new space to capture the energy and excitement of a visit to the ballpark, with a food-and-beverage experience all its own, crafted around the way fans enjoy the action together,” said Jeff Denlea, vice president of hospitality strategy for Levy at Wrigley Field.

FanDuel operating lounge at United Center

When DraftKings does open its Wrigley Park sportsbook, it will be the fourth to be located at a U.S. baseball stadium.

BetMGM currently operates sportsbooks at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati and Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., while Caesars Sportsbook operates a facility at Chase Field in Phoenix. Illinois is one of six U.S. jurisdictions that currently allow for sportsbooks at professional sports venues.

Six other pro venues around Illinois are eligible for licenses, and last fall, FanDuel opened its sports lounge at United Center. However, betting is not yet available at that facility either. According to the Illinois Gaming Board website, FanDuel applied for its application last August.

Allstate Arena (AHL Chicago Wolves/AHL) Guaranteed Rate Field (MLB Chicago White Sox), SeatGeek Stadium (NWSL/Red Stars), Soldier Field (NFL Chicago Bears and MLS/Chicago Fire), and Wintrust Arena (WNBA/Sky) are also eligible for sportsbook licenses.

DraftKings’ sports lounge will be open from 4-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. on Sunday.
