Attention turns to Town Moor on Friday for a good seven-race card from Doncaster.
There are some interesting and competitive handicaps at the home of the St Leger and the action is highlighted by a Class 4 staying handicap at 15:20.
Doncaster Betting Tips
15:20 – Campaign Trail @ 10/3
Only five runners go to post for the one-mile-six-and-a-half-furlong handicap at 15:20 and it’s no surprise to see the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Pledgeofallegiance heading the betting.
Pledgeofallegiance did score well at Redcar last time out, but the three-year-old is up eight pounds and in a better race. The gelding’s victory on the Yorkshire Coast came in first-time cheekpieces and his tendency to hand left has to be a worry.
At the prices, Campaign Trail looks the better option.
Ralph Beckett’s charge when keeping on for second in a decent race at Sailsbury last time out and there should be more to come on only his fifth career start. Campaign Trail was raised only two pounds for that good run and the step up in trip can see the three-year-old get his head in front.
15:55 – Absolute Dream @ 5/1
Absolute Dream was fairly well supported ahead of finishing third at Thirsk last time out, suggesting a return to form wasn’t far away, and a mark of 65 looks workable.
Richard Fahey’s charge is an eight-time winner, the seven year old has won on the Town Moor course, and over this trip in the past, and this race doesn’t look any more competitive than the one that he was narrowly beaten in at Thirsk 25 days ago.
16:30 – Paco’s Pride @ 7/2
Lady Wormsley dominates the betting for the fillies handicap over one mile at 16:30, but
James Fanshawe’s runner looks opposable and Paco’s Pride looks the play.
Roger Varian’s charge has only managed a rating of 61, but she’s unexposed on only her fifth career start and second run on turf. The three-year-old ran a race far better than the fourth-place finishing position suggests, at Leicester last time out, and this well-bred 120,000gns yearling should have more to offer.
