NL West rivals clash in SoCal Wednesday night as the Dodgers and Padres wrap up a short two-game set at Petco Park. LA took a gut-punch loss in the series opener, blowing a late 5-3 lead before falling 6-5 in extras.

Can the Boys in Blue bounce back tonight or will the Padres surf to a mini-sweep at home? Oddsmakers have the Padres as slight -135 moneyline favorites, while the Dodgers come in at +115. The total is set at a modest 7 runs, indicating a potential pitcher’s duel in the making.

Here are our Padres vs Dodgers odds and predictions for Wednesday, along with MLB player props to wager on.

Padres Favored in Wednesday MLB Odds

The Padres are -135 moneyline favorites in this matchup, implying they have a 57.5% chance to win the game. You would need to risk $135 to win $100 on a Padres victory. The Dodgers are +115 underdogs, meaning a $100 bet would net you $115 if they pull the upset. Los Angeles has a 46.5% implied probability to win.

The odds favor San Diego for a few key reasons. First, they have a decided edge in the pitching matchup with Cease on a historic run right now. Kershaw is still working his way back into form.

The Padres also have the hotter bats, ranking 1st in team average and 12th in runs scored compared to the Dodgers at 8th and 4th, respectively. Plus, the Padres have home field and momentum after Tuesday’s dramatic win.

On the run line, San Diego is favored by 1.5 runs but has longer +165 odds, as it’s always tougher to cover that larger spread. Los Angeles is a +1.5 underdog but has shorter -200 odds. In their last 10 games, the Padres are 6-4 ATS while the Dodgers are 5-5.

For the total, the over/under is a relatively low seven runs, showing oddsmakers expect a pitcher’s duel. The over has slight -115 juice, but unders are 5-1 in the last six meetings at Petco Park. With these two aces on the mound, I lean towards the under despite the low number.

Dodgers vs Padres Prediction July 31

Tuesday’s series opener was a bran-burner, with the Padres erasing a 5-0 deficit to walk it off 6-5 in the 10th inning. Manny Machado and rookie Jackson Merrill provided the late heroics with 9th-inning home runs. The Padres will look to ride that momentum into the finale.

The pitching matchup favors the Padres, with Dylan Cease (10-8, 3.50 ERA) coming off a no-hitter in his last start against the Nationals. Cease has been on a historic run, allowing just two hits over his last 22 scoreless innings with 30 strikeouts. He made an adjustment with his glove placement that has unlocked more velocity and made his slider nearly unhittable.

The Dodgers counter with Clayton Kershaw, who is making just his 2nd start of the season after returning from injury. Kershaw went four innings, allowing 2 runs against the Giants in his season debut. While historically dominant against the Padres (23-10, 2.12 ERA in his career), it remains to be seen if Kershaw can regain top form this quickly.

The Padres have been one of the hottest teams since the All-Star break, winning eight of their last nine entering this series. Their lineup, led by contact machines like Luis Arraez and Jurickson Profar, leads MLB with a .264 team average.

Given Cease’s dominant run and the Padres’ home-field advantage, I like San Diego to win a close one. However, my best bet is Under 7 runs with two true aces on the mound. Don’t be scared by the low number — it’s set that low for a reason.

Wednesday MLB Picks:

  • Under 7 Runs (-115)
  • San Diego ML (-135)

San Diego vs LA Player Props

Here are a few of the player props we are targeting for Wendseday’s MLB game:

Dylan Cease Over 8.5 Ks (-110)

Cease has been collecting strikeouts like infinity stones, hitting this Over in three straight starts with 30 total punchouts. The Dodgers are fanning at a 28% rate over the last 14 days, and Cease’s fastball-slider combo has been nearly unhittable. With his swing-and-miss stuff, Cease is a strong bet to rack up 9+ Ks again.

Jurickson Profar Over 0.5 HRs

Profar has been the Padres’ top power threat this year, clubbing a team-high 18 dingers. The switch-hitter has been especially potent vs lefties, batting .315 with a .551 slugging percentage. Kershaw could be rusty in just his second start back, making Profar a live dog to leave the yard at generous +425 odds.

Xander Bogaerts Over 1.5 Total Base

X marks the spot again. Bogaerts has been scorching at the plate, cashing this Over in 15 of his last 19 games (a tidy 50% ROI). The Padres shortstop has 43 multi-hit efforts on the year and is batting .347 over his last 15 contests. With the platoon advantage against Kershaw, Bogey should be in for another productive night.
