Diablo 4 Spiritborn Builds and Theorycrafting

5 Spiritborn Builds Worth Trying

The Vessel of Hatred expansion comes later this year, but it’s never too early to discuss Spiritborn builds!

Whether you’re looking for a foundation to make your own builds, having something ready so you can jump straight into play, or even just getting an idea of what the class can do, these build overviews should have a thing or two of interest.

It is important to remember that although we do have a metric ton of information on the Spiritborn, things can change between now and the launch of the class with Vessel of Hatred.

Regardless, we’ll make sure to have the most up-to-date meta builds ready on day 1.

Create your own Spirtiborn builds with our build planner.

1. Jaguar Purist (Jaguar + Jaguar Spiritborn Build)

The first build we will cover is a straight-to-the-point Jaguar build, focusing on high DPS attack speed and mobility, with a little dash of strategic defenses to help us out in emergency situations.

Pros:

  • High damage
  • Ramping attack speed
  • Sustain HP & Vigor (Mana) by killing enemies
  • Mobility
  • One Spirit(easier to build)

Cons:

  • Lack of healing during single-target fights
  • Squishy
  • Overly simple rotation
  • No making the best use of the class’s versatility

Spirit Setup

Getting into the first build itself now, we’re using a Jaguar + Jaguar setup, doubling down on the benefits.

jaguar purist build

The primary passive gives us a powerful burst of damage every fourth attack, and the secondary increases our maximum stacks of Ferocity (stacking attack speed buff) by one and also generates one every time will kill an enemy or hit a boss.

Skills

  1. Rushing Claw as a mobility skill to dash from pack to pack.
  2. Rake as our primary DPS skill.
  3. Soar as our engaging skill as this will also cast Vortex at the location we land at.
  4. Armored Hide is our source of unstoppable, plus a nice defensive in its own right.
  5. Ravaager for increased ferocity stacks & as a DPS cooldown, even adds a dash to Rake.
  6. The Hunter is our ultimate, for dishing out large amounts of AoE damage

Core Build Concepts

Now to break down the gear I want to focus on some of the more interesting aspects we’re going to be looking at using.

Windbolt Aspect is one of the most exciting ones for me, it’s very simple in what it does, dragging in distance enemies every two seconds, but the benefit of something like this is hard to overstate for a melee build! No more annoying archers or casters to chase around, no sir they’re going to be sucked in and ripping to pieces!

wildbolt aspect

Aspect of Turbulence is another powerful tool, causing our Soars to cast Vortex as we land.

Much like Windbolt, this is a godsend for a melee-centric build, bringing in all enemies close so they can be dispatched quickly.

aspect of turbulence

But there are many more benefits to this combo, firstly Soar itself will make all the enemies it hits Vulnerable and make your next attack a guaranteed critical hit.

vortex

And Vortex in addition to dragging enemies into you will also increase the damage of your next attack. That’s some serious value for one cast of Soar!

We spoke about Ravager a bit before but it’s so good it deserves its own little section here, in fact, there are so many good things built into this skill I may need to bullet-point it.

  • Increases our maximum stacks of Ferocity by 1
  • When activated, (cast like a normal skill) increases our damage by up to 84% for 6 seconds!
  • Duration can be extended by killing enemies
  • Our core skills dash to nearby enemies while active
  • Resource regeneration is increased by 30% while active

See, I wasn’t joking – this is an absolutely insane skill, and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if it’s possible to get a near 100% uptime on it too.

measured ravager

Also shout-out to Anitvenom for an absurd amount of poison resistant, like what!?

antivenom

2. Soaring Gorilla (Gorilla + Eagle Spiritborn Build)

This next build is what I call the Soaring Gorilla – in this build we use the Eagle skills to move about the battlefield in a way a Gorilla would probably have trouble doing, and then those Gorilla skills to pound enemies into the ground with our fists, something you won’t see many Eagles doing.

There is also a fairly clear synergy between the two with many skills having a high level of parity with one another, something I think you’ll see even in this short overview.

Pros

  • Really, really tanky
  • Tons of crowd control
  • Executes low-health enemies
  • Generates barrier
  • Huge uptime on Unstoppable
  • Decent mobility

Cons

  • Lower DPS than alternatives
  • Slower attacking
  • Thorns damage can be unreliable
  • Not as thematic as other builds

Spirit Setup

From the image below, you’ll see that this build is a little messier than the previous.

soaring gorilla build

Despite being a “Gorilla” build we’re actually using the Centipede as our primary spirit as it provides a stacking debuff on enemies reducing their damage.

For secondary, we do have the Gorilla with this passive granting, an increase to our maximum resolve and unstoppable whenever we have over 5 stacks.

Skills

  1. Rock Splitter provides a short dash but is otherwise not often used.
  2. Crushing Hands is our main damaging skill, it also generates barriers.
  3. Soar for its mobility and casting Vortex thanks to Aspect of Turbulence.
  4. Armored Hide for on-demand unstoppable, strong defensive, and a passive that grants 5 resolve every 5 seconds.
  5. Vortex for dragging in enemies.
  6. The Protector for a big smash on bad guys and a ton of survivability.=

Core Build Concepts

When I was putting together this concept I almost couldn’t believe how strong some of the defensive aspects were for Gorilla type builds. This first one, Aspect of Reactive Armor, adds 10% block chance as a flat bonus, and then an up to 60% chance to cast a free Ground Stomp when you block. Ground Stomp not only knocks down enemies but also can provide a juicy boost to your barrier!

aspect of reactive armor

The next aspect that blew me away was the Aspect of Forest Power. This Lucky Hit chance passive can create a mystic circle on the ground when you hit enemies.

When it does, as you cast Gorilla skills within it and you gain what I can only describe as a mental amount of defensive boons for its 10 duration. With aspects like these, it’s going to be very hard to die.

aspect of forest power

One fantastic synergy between Gorilla +Eagle skills would be Measured Vortex – when you cast Vortex manually or through the Aspect of Turbulence while a barrier is active, Vortex gets a massive 200% damage increase! In addition, it knocks them down too.

measured vortex

Now you’ve heard me mention knocking enemies down a couple of times now and might be wondering why it’s so important. First and like with all crowd control, when an enemy is disabled, they’re not doing damage so you could think of knockdown as a form of damage reduction.

But the real answer is this, the passive, Dominant! It’s a nice 15% boost to the damage you deal to knock down enemies and even a 15% to execute them if they’re not a boss!

dominant

3. Feather Dash (Eagle + Eagle Spiritborn Build)

This, I have to admit, is one of the most unique builds I think I’ve seen, everything is centered around using Evade. It’s an Eagle-style build that’ll have you blasting around the map at breakneck speeds, auto-casting a whole bunch of skills by simply using evade. This will be a build to watch out for!

Pros

  • Extreme mobility
  • Auto cast playstyle
  • Permanent Unstoppable
  • High Damage
  • Insane dodge chance

Cons

  • Squishy
  • Could be unreliable for bossing

Spirit Setup

feather dash build

For the spirits, we have the nice and easy double Eagle. The primary spirit passive creates Storm Feathers when you use Eagle skills and fire them for a whole bunch of damage every time we evade, which will be all the time.

The secondary passive increased our critical hit chance as we move, which will also be all the time!

Skills

  1. Thunderspike is one of our many sources of damage and is auto-cast on evade can also be spammed for a burst of single target DPS
  2. Ground Stomp, also primarily auto-cast through blocking though a great defensive tool when used manually.
  3. Ravager is a great offensive tool granting a nice DPS boost as well as a passive increase to the number of ferocity stacks we can have.
  4. Counterattack, a HUGE amount of passive dodge, and another great defensive tool when cast.
  5. Armored Hide, is our unstoppable skill plus juices defences when used.
  6. The Seeker is our ultimate used for a massive burst of AoE Damage.

Core Build Concepts

A core component to this build is feathers, it’s in the name! This first aspect, the Aspect of Recalling Feathers works beautifully with the concept of this build.

By dragging all previously summoned feathers to your location when you use a focus skill like Vortex and Soar, both of which are auto-cast when you dodge, so as you land and suck enemies in they’re then bombarded with feathers.

aspect of recalling feathers

The Aspect of Sky Power has got to be one of the most fun aspects possible for a build like this! You’ll have a chance to summon a mystic circle when you use a skill, any subsequent skills cast within the skill will follow you as you move. And if that wasn’t good enough, they’ll even explode for extra damage when you evade.

aspect of sky power

Accelerated Thunderspike is a very important component to the DPS of this build, on top of the Vortex and Soar every time we evade we also cast Thunderspike.

accelerated thunderspike

This enhanced version ensures our uptime on Vulnerable, but, thanks to a lot of the recent changes to the game, Basic Skills SLAP!

Counter Attack provides an enormous amount of survivability in way of up to 40% chance to dodge.

counterattack

This is an insane amount from a skill! Better still, it has an active element to further increase your defenses when things go badly.

4. Rushing Claw (Eagle + Jaguar Spiritborn Build)

The Rushing Claw build dashes through enemies tearing them asunder and if they didn’t fall the first time, which is rare, then dash through them again in the flash of an eye to finish the job!

This build is all about feline Ferocity, mobility and most importantly tearing enemies apart.

Rushing Claw is a fast-paced high DPS build that’ll be right at home speed farming content and perhaps leveling.

Pros

  • Super fast
  • High critical hit chance
  • Strong AoE clear
  • Flashy
  • Heals on kill

Consz

  • Unreliable bossing
  • Can be awkward managing cooldowns
  • Squishy

Spirit Setup

We’re using Eagle as our primary spirit for the most part so that we can apply the Eagle tag to our skills for use with some passives and Aspects that help drive the build. The Storm Feather also provides a nice burst of damage when we choose to evade.

rushing claw build

Our secondary is Jaguar for the increased maximum Ferocity stacks plus Ferocity on enemy kill or boss hit.

Skills

  1. Soar is an interchangeable skill, however, it works incredibly well with almost any build
  2. Rushing Claw, our main damaging skill and our mobility, the concept of this build is to spam it till the cows come home.
  3. Ravager for even more to our maximum Ferocity and a big old boost to our damage when activated.
  4. Armored Hide to get us out of CC with unstoppable.
  5. Counterattack for the passive dodge, but also makes for a nice defensive when manually cast.
  6. Finally our ultimate The Hunter, big AoE damage for those tougher enemies

Core Build Concepts

Because all of our skills are Eagle skills, we’ll be able to proc this aspect with Rushing Claw no problems.

The reasoning behind this pick is to spawn and collect these Empowered Feathers to apply cooldown reduction to Rushing Claw as it is a mobility skill. Allowing us to carry one ripping enemies apart for as long as we choose to.

aspect of empowered feathers

The next aspect to do much the same is Alacrity and this as you can see grants further cooldown reduction but this time to all our skills, and naturally with a build like this we will always be on the move.

aspect of alacrity

Like how I mentioned in the opening statement for this build, if the first attack doesn’t kill the the next one will.

But…if it doesn’t, you can be safe knowing that the longer an enemy is foolish to survive, your damage will keep increasing until they do fall. Up to 80% increased damage over eight hits!? This will help a lot with bossing!

enhanced rushing claw

And did I mention this build was fast? The focus for me here was speed farming, speed, speed, and more speed.

acceleration

So if all of our skills are indeed Eagle spells getting 15% when we use one seems like a pretty good deal to me.

5. Claw of Death (Centipede + Eagle Spiritborn Build)

Fancy causing enemies to explode in a fiery, poisoned explosion of death, decay, and mayhem? Something that sings to that multiple-spirited stance dancing style that not many other builds go for? Then I might just have the ticket.

This Claw of Death build ramps up insane amounts of poison and causes a multitude of explosions from three different sources! Enemies will be sorry they got close to you or close to one another.

Pros

  • Heavy damage over time
  • Unique three spirit setup
  • Large AoE explosions
  • High critical hit chance
  • High healing potential
  • Attacks dash to enemies
Cons
  • Not many defensive
  • Not the most mobile build for spiritborn
  • Requires a legendary helmet to work

Spirit Setup

This setup is unusual at first glance but will make more sense as we go through this build, so bare with me a moment!

For our primary spirit, we’re going Centipede we need the skill tag plus it’s a pretty healthy dose of damage reduction and crowd control which synergizes nicely with some downstream passives.

claw of death skills

Second, we have Eagle, which grants a ramping critical hit chance boost as we move and is consumed when we next land a critical hit, again we really want this skill tag for later on.

Skills

  1. Touch of Death applies a deadly poison and explodes when afflicted enemy dies
  2. Rake, the main damage driver, stacks ferocity and causes enemies to explode.
  3. Ravage for a damage boost, passive increase to max ferocity and grants rake a short dash to enemies when active.
  4. Armored Hide, source of unstoppable and a great defensive
  5. Toxic Skin helps ramp poison damage and applies poison to any enemy that hits you.
  6. The Devourer, huge amounts of poison damage, and an execute!

Core Build Concepts

The Spiritborn has many cool “power” Aspects and this one is no different.

Aspect of Soil Power is a Lucky Hit chance to create a mystic circle that poisons enemies standing within it, while also increasing the duration of crowd control on them. The latter comes in very handy as we can do increased damage to crowd-controlled enemies with Centipede skills!

aspect of soil power

Reaper’s Aspect is one of the reasons we’ve gone into the Eagle spirit with this build. Our poison now completely shuts off healing for our enemies and grants our Centipede skills up to 25% increased critical strike chance against them, and all of our skills are Eagle skills thanks to the next item.

reaper's aspect

Harmony is a new unique helm specific to the Spiritborn, the wording is a little confusing here but what it does is grant all your skills the tag for the secondary spirit you’ve chosen, so for us that would be Eagle.

It also boosts our damage by 50% per spirit tag on a skill, meaning that for our Rake skill, we have, Jaguar, Centipede, and Eagle tags.

This equals an eye-watering increase of 150% damage! Not only that, the base stats are extremely good too.

harmony

Lastly with Noxious Resonance, we take all of that critical hit chance we’ve got and turn it into yet another explosion. noxious resonance

100% of the current poison damage we have as an AoE every time we crit? With the insane amount of poison we can apply? And Rake plus Touch of Death? I feel sorry for any enemies stupid enough to get close to us or one another!
