- In the Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers injury report and inactives, Packers WR Christian Watson (hamstring) is expected to make his season debut in the Week 4 TNF game
- Lions FB Jason Cabinda (knee) and RG Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee) are out
- Eight Green Bay starters and five Detroit starters are carrying injury designations
As they ready to play host to the Detroit Lions in a key early-season NFC North showdown, the Lions vs Packers injury report and inactives for this Week 4 TNF game are showing that the Green Bay Packers are getting healthier at the skill positions.
Out all season with a hamstring injury, Packers WR Christian Watson is expecting to see his first regular-season game action of 2023. Running back Aaron Jones, also inactive the past two weeks due to a hamstring issue, it trending toward playing against Detroit.
Nonetheless, in this battle of 2-1 squads, it’s the visiting Lions who are the 1.5-point away chalk in the Lions vs Packers odds.
So far in the Lions vs Packers public betting splits, Detroit is getting the vast majority of ATS handle (68% as 1.5-point road favorites) as well as most of the moneyline action (85% as -130-point road favorites).
Lions Riddled With Issues On Offense
Detroit RB David Montgomery (thigh) and LT Taylor Decker (ankle) are expecting to be playing in this game. Decker has been inactive the past two games. His return would mean the Lions could move Penei Sewell from LT back to his normal starting assignment of RT.
Take 2: #Lions RB David Montgomery will play tonight and be the lead back vs. the #Packers, though there’s plenty in the game plan for rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, too. Meanwhile, RB Aaron Jones and WR Christian Watson return for the banged-up #Packers. @gmfb @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/aAh5G0t2xF

Guard Halapoulivaati Vatai will be missing his second straight game. He was hurt in Detroit’s Week 2 loss to Seattle.
Detroit Lions Injury Report
Player-Position | Injury | Game Status |

David Montgomery-RB | Thigh | Questionable |
Jason Cabinda-FB | Knee | Out |
Halapoulivaati Vaitai-G | Knee | Questionable |
Taylor Decker-T | Ankle | Questionable |

Matt Nelson-T | Ankle | Out |
CJ Gardner-Johnson-S | Pectoral | Out (IR) |
Emmanuel Moseley-CB | Knee | Out (IR) |
Jameson Williams-WR | Suspension | Out |
A strong presence as a blocker on offense and in special teams play, LB turned FB Jason Cabinda (knee) has also been ruled out for this game. Starting safety CJ Gardner-Johnson (pectoral) was placed on IR, but the team is hopeful he’ll be healthy before season’s end.
Backup tackle Matt Nelson is also out. He’s expected to undergo ankle surgery and be placed on IR. Safety Kerby Joseph, questionable due to a hip ailment, made a key interception in last season’s 20-16 Detroit win at Green Bay.
Packers Welcoming Back the Ailing
Green Bay is steadily getting healthier on both sides of the ball, so you might want to be looking at either Watson or Jones in the Lions vs Packers player props.
Cornerback Jaire Alexander, questionable with a back injury, is also expected to be playing. LB Rashan Gary, back after recovering from ACL surgery, has played all three games this season, but has yet to make a start.

Christian Watson-WR | Hamstring | Questionable |
Aaron Jones-RB | Hamstring | Questionable |
David Bakhtiari-T | Knee | Out |
Elton Jenkins-G | Knee | Out |
Zach Tom-T | Knee | Questionable |

Carrington Valentine-CB | Biceps | Questionable |
Zayne Anderson-S | Hamstring | Questionable |
Eric Stokes-CN | hamstring | Out (PUP) |
Luke Tenuta-T | Ankle | Out (IR) |
However, the news is not so good along the offensive front. Both LT David Bakhtiari (knee) and LG Elgton Jenkins (knee) are ruled out for this game. RT Zach Tom (knee) was limited in practice this week and is showing as questionable. Starting LILB De’Vondre Campbell (knee) is also out.
How Could Injuries Affect Lions vs Packers Betting Lines?
Green Bay’s thin offensive line is further compounded by the fact that backup tackle Luke Tenuta (ankle) was place on IR earlier this week. Royce Newman will start at LG for Jenkins. Rasheed Walker steps into the LT void left by veteran All-Pro Bakhtiari. He’s played four NFL games and made just two starts.
Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Week, could be enjoying a field day getting to Packers QB Jordan Love. That could prove a real factor in the Lions vs Packers prediction.

Seven-year veteran Graham Glasgow will start again for Vatai at RG. He’s well experienced, having started 92 of his 102 NFL games. However, Nelson’s absence will be felt. He’s a swing tackle for the Lions, backing up on both sides of the line. If Decker is unable to go the distance, Detroit’s OL depth will be tested.
The Lions signed TE Darrell Daniels to the roster to help fill the void left by Cabinda’s absence.
