HSR Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae Guide
Dan Heng – Imbibitor Lunae (abbreviated to DHIL in this article) is a traditional Hypercarry whose gimmick is converting excessive amounts of Skill Points into Damage. His high modifier gives him a good range of offensive support units to play with, but his high SP consumption does limit team-building capacity and is completely non-functional outside of a classic hyper-carry team.
While he may have somewhat fallen behind newer DPS, he still packs one of the most classic examples of overpowered early DPS Eidolon that manages to make him stay relevant in the newer landscape of the game.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Release Date
Imbibitor Lunae originally released in Version 1.3 and his banner ran from August 30, 2023 to September 20, 2023. His latest rerun is currently running in Version 2.6 from October 23, 2024 to November 13, 2024.
Imbibitor Lunae HSR Kit Review (Trace Level 10)
Enhanced Basic / Ultimate
DHIL’s playstyle completely revolves around his Enhanced Basic Attack – namely Transcendence, Divine Spear, and Fulgurant Leap. Essentially, players can choose between three versions of their Basic Attack, each consuming more Skill Points and dealing more damage than the last, to attack. Transcendence costs 1 SP and only attacks 1 enemy, while both Divine Spear and Fulgurant Leap are Blast attacks that consume 2 and 3 SP respectively.
His Ultimate Skill is a Blast attack that grants him 2 Squama Sacrosancta stacks afterward. These stacks can be consumed in place of Skill Points for his Enhanced Basic Attacks, which alleviates a lot of the SP pressure that DHIL puts onto his teammates, and also makes energy-based Support a great way to get around his mechanics. It is also worth noting that DHIL has a very good Breaking capacity with his Fulgurant Leap attack, which makes him a very solid pick in Break-centric mode like Apocalyptic Shadow against Imaginary-weak bosses.
Self Buffs
The rest of his kits are mostly self-buffs and are remarkably simple in practice. When DHIL uses Divine Spear or Fulgurant Leap, from the 4th hit onward he will gain a stack of Outroar for every hit, with each stack granting him 12% Crit Damage that lasts until the end of his current turn. In a similar mold, DHIL’s talent grants him a 10% stackable (up to 6 times) Damage Boost called Righteous Heart for each hit, which also lasts until the end of his current turn. His first major trace, Star Veil, grants him 15 Energy at the start of the battle. Aqua Reign – the second major trace – gives 35% Crowd Control resistance, while Jolt Anew – the third major trace – increases his Critical Damage by 24% when fighting Imaginary-weak enemies.
DHIL’s technique lets him enter the Leaping Dragon state for 20 seconds, during which he can continuously move very fast by spamming the attack button. If he enters battle with this, he will damage all enemies and immediately gain a stack of Squama Sacrosancta at the start of the battle.
Playstyle
While he has three different Enhanced Basic Attacks versions, most of the time DHIL should use Fulgurant Leap – the strongest one for the maximum amount of damage output as well as the highest breaking capacity. There are circumstances where one can min-max by using the lesser versions for better SP consumption however but they are not particularly common. Due to his excessive SP demand, DHIL is very dependent on his teams to generate SP for him, either via basic attacks or granting him energy so he can cycle his Ultimate faster.

Eidolon Priority
DHIL is the first infamous example in Honkai Star Rail of a DPS getting an exceptional early Eidolon that completely changes how they play. His Eidolon 2 is extremely powerful, increasing his Squama Sacrosancta stack gained from his Ultimate to 3, but more importantly immediately 100% Advanced Forward him. Essentially, this Eidolon will heavily change his Rotation and also increase the importance of Energy Support for him a lot more. It is a much bigger boost than his Signature Light Cone if one can afford it, and is the thing that lets him keep up with more modern DPS in endgame modes.
His other powerful Eidolon is Eidolon 6 as with most DPS, but E2 is already a fantastic stopping point for DHIL and it is not advised to go further. E1 and E4 are both net DPS increases but are not particularly important to his performance.
DHIL’s vertical investment priority should be Sparkle E0 > DHIL E2 > DHIL Light Cone.
- Eidolon 1: Low Value
- Eidolon 2: Very High Value
- Eidolon 4: Low Value
- Eidolon 6: Very High Value

HSR Imbibitor Lunae Light Cones
Premium Options
Brighter Than the Sun
Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 18% / 21% / 24% / 27% / 30% . When the wearer uses their Basic ATK, they will gain 1 stack of Dragon’s Call, lasting for 2 turns. Each stack of Dragon’s Call increases the wearer’s ATK by 18% / 21% / 24% / 27% / 30% and Energy Regeneration Rate by 6% / 7% / 8% / 9% / 10% . Dragon’s Call can be stacked up to 2 times.
Brighter Than The Sun is his best Light Cone, not only for the raw stats buff but also the Energy Regeneration Rate which is quite clutch for a lot of rotation. DHIL does have a really good F2P replacement in On The Fall Of An Aeon so his Eidolon 2 should be prioritized over this, but it is still a noticeable improvement for both his damage output and smoothness.
The Moles Welcome You
When the wearer uses Basic ATK, Skill, or Ultimate to attack enemies, the wearer gains one stack of Mischievous. Each stack increases the wearer’s ATK by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24%.
This LC is mostly just a placeholder Light Cone in case DHIL does not have access to both Aeon and his Signature Light Cone.
Under the Blue Sky
Increases the wearer’s ATK by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% . When the wearer defeats an enemy, the wearer’s CRIT Rate increases by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24% for 3 turns.
Similar to The Moles Welcome You, this Light Cone is mostly a stat stick replacement for his signature Light Cone and Aeon.
F2P Options
On the Fall of an Aeon
When the wearer attacks, increase their ATK by 8% / 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% in this battle. This effect can stack up to 4 times. After the wearer breaks an enemy’s Weakness, increases DMG dealt by 12% / 15% / 18% / 21% / 24% , lasting for 2 turns.
Easily his second-best option, Aeon boost is quite strong and the condition is also very easily maintained due to DHIL’s high breaking capacity. The main problem with this Light Cone is that each account can only get one copy and it is very splashable on most of the Destruction DPS units.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Main Stats
- Body: Crit Rate% / Crit Damage%
- Feet: Attack% >> Speed
- Orb: Imaginary Damage / Attack%
- Rope: Attack%
As a Critical-centric Hypercarry, Crit Rate and Crit Damage are the most important offensive stats for DHIL. The priority for him should be getting as much in-combat Critical Rate as possible (near 100%) and then investing in Crit Damage and Attack.
For Feet, Attack boot will be best most of the time, especially when pairing with his best Support – Sparkle. The reason for this is that DHIL scales very well with Attack, and Sparkle can act as a Speed boot for him. Going Speed Boot without a way to generate a lot of SP will also mess up his Rotation if not managed well, which can put a lot of pressure on his teammates to function with minimal SP. There are specific rotations where Speed boot can be used, for example, if used with Bronya he can do a Basic -> Bronya E -> Enhanced Basic rotation, but in general, Attack boot is easier to play in most setups.
For orbs, both Imaginary Damage and Attack% are viable options. Attack% is also the best option for Rope as the other stats don’t do much for him in general.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Sub Stats
- Crit Rate
- Crit Damage
- Attack
As a rule of thumb, DHIL should get his Crit Rate as close to 100% as possible, then go for Crit Damage and Attack.
Speed Tuning
DHIL does not have a specific Speed threshold and generally prefers to play with Attack boots. Generally, the only notable situation where he goes Speed Boot would be with Bronya and he’d need to be faster than the Bronya, so the easiest threshold would be 134 Speed. When used with Yukong, you also want him to move after Yukong as well so he can take advantage of her buffs.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Relics
Musketeer of Wild Wheat
- 2-Pc: Increases ATK by 12%.
- 4-Pc: The wearer’s SPD increases by 6% and DMG dealt by Basic ATK increases by 10%.
12% Attack and 10% Basic Attack Damage increase are both strong effects that DHIL can utilize. This set is also quite easy to get good pieces for as they can be dropped from both the cavern and Echoes of War stages.
Option B
Wastelander of Banditry Desert
- 2-Pc: Increases Imaginary DMG by 10%.
- 4-Pc: When attacking debuffed enemies, the wearer’s CRIT Rate increases by 10%, and their CRIT DMG increases by 20% against Imprisoned enemies.
In a vacuum, Wastelander is stronger than Musketeer, but the gap is small and DHIL can rarely employ the 4pc effect. Furthermore, Wastelander has a very bad cavern, sharing it with an extremely underwhelming set which makes farming for it very inefficient.
Option C: Any 2+2 combination of these sets with good sub-stats
- 2-Pc: Increases ATK by 12%
- 2-Pc: Increases Imaginary DMG by 10%
2+2 between any of these sets is a very practical solution for DHIL. It might be the most efficient way to give him a good set as most of these sets belong to really good caverns with 2 good sets so one naturally accumulates good double Crit substats pieces.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Planar Sets
Rutilant Arena
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 8%. When the wearer’s current CRIT Rate reaches 70% or higher, DMG dealt by Basic ATK and Skill increases by 20%.
Rutilant is the best set for DHIL due to its granting Crit Rate and boosting his primary form of attack.
Space Sealing Station
- 2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, the wearer’s ATK increases by an extra 12%.
Space Sealing Station is a solid option but the 120 Speed requirement might be hard to meet with Attack% boot.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Teammates
Thanks to his high modifier and straightforward gameplay, Dan Heng – Imbibitor Lunae does go well with most hyper-carry supports, with a preference for units that can function well with minimal SP consumption. There are currently no sub-DPS that work well with him, and he mostly wants to operate in a double amplifier + sustain formation.
Harmony/Nihility
Sparkle
Sparkle is by far his strongest support, especially at E0 level thanks to her ability to act as his Speed boot while also frontloading a lot of SP for his Enhanced Basic Attack.
Robin
While Robin is not particularly SP-positive support and can be clunky to use, her damage amplification is so high that she can work with practically any crit-based hypercarry. For fast clear, few Harmonies can boast as much improvement to the team as Robin.
Tingyun
Tingyun is a very SP-positive support unit while also providing a lot of Energy to DHIL, which further improves his rotation and fluidity. Tingyun can be even more influential to E2 DHIL as his Ultimate becomes much more crucial to his damage output. Tingyun’s problem is that her damage amplification is weaker compared to other Harmony, but she also makes up for it with the capacity to utilize powerful Light Cones like Dance Dance Dance very effectively. A limited version of Tingyun that provides frontload Energy and Damage / Crit buffs will most likely become DHIL’s best-in-slot teammate alongside Sparkle.
Yukong
Yukong was the OG DHIL support unit before the arrival of limited Harmony units. Even today, her damage amplification for DHIL is still very notable, and she can use the Planetary Rendezvous Light Cone as well as the Penacony set for further damage boost. Yukong’s main problem is timing her buffs is very tricky and she is not a particularly SP positive support, which can stifle the rotation when she is in the team.
Ruan Mei
Ruan Mei’s extremely splashable as a support and DHIL can use most of her buffs. She can be used in any DHIL team but the place she gives the most value for DHIL is in Apocalyptic Shadow due to his high innate breaking capacity.
Bronya
Bronya is extremely SP negative but her buffs are very potent. When used with Bronya, players need to map out a good rotation to take advantage of her buffs without completely depleting the SP of the team, and DHIL will also need to play differently when with other Supports, but when done right they can do monstrous bursts.
Jiaoqiu
Jiaoqiu has very high amplification, and the fact that he is a Nihility unit means that he is a lot less likely to run into buff saturation problems like stacking Harmony buffers. Jiaoqiu when built has a fixed SP positive rotation of Skill – Basic – Basic so he is a good option in general, but outside of damage amplification he does not provide any utility or quality of life improvement to DHIL.
Pela
Similar to Jiaoqiu, Pela does not have a lot of buff saturation problems like Harmony units. She is also very SP-positive and has the buff dispel utility on her skill. Pela’s amplification however is not up to the level of Harmony units and should only be used when better options are not available.
Sustain
Huohuo
Despite not being a fully SP positive due to her need to upkeep her healing, Huohuo’s Ultimate is highly valuable to DHIL due to the Energy and Attack buff it provides. Most of DHIL’s teammates also are Energy-based units such as Sparkle, Tingyun, and Robin so Huohuo is the natural fit for the team.
Gallagher
Gallagher is the most SP-positive sustain and is the most effective holder of the Quid Pro Quo Light Cone, so he is the best F2P sustain option for DHIL.
Luocha
Luocha is another highly SP-positive sustain that can be used. While he is not as effective as Gallagher at utilizing Quid Pro Quo Light Cone, he has far better sustainability and shares the element with DHIL, meaning he can help with breaking enemies.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Teams
Dan Heng – Imbibitor Lunae Premium Team
This is the highest-ceiling DHIL team at the moment. Robin can be substituted with Tingyun or Ruan Mei depending on the battle and the team on the other side of Memory of Chaos / Apocalyptic Shadow. If there is a Limited Energy-Based support unit released later on, they will most likely replace Robin in this team.
Dan Heng – Imbibitor Lunae F2P Team
Sparkle is far too effective with DHIL so even for a F2P team, she should still be prioritized. Tingyun and Gallagher are both very effective F2P support units for DHIL.
HSR Imbibitor Lunae Pull Value and Conclusion
Of all the 1.x DPS units, DHIL, alongside Seele and Dr.Ratio have all held up decently against newer DPS. In the case of DHIL, his second Eidolon still allows him to do extremely well in recent contests due to how versatile and powerful it is.
For most players who do not have DHIL yet, it is highly not advised to get him over more modern DPS since the pace of power creeping in Honkai Star Rail has been quite fast and making pulling DPS on rerun highly inefficient. For people who already have him and want to keep playing him, then his E2 is a significant upgrade that can keep him relevant for future content.
