United Health Centers (UHC) has initiated the construction of its 31st clinic, located in Southeast Fresno near Jensen and Cedar avenues in California, US, reported The Business Journal.

The 12,300ft² facility is expected to be completed in more than one year.

Along with recently opened locations at Juan Felipe Herrera Elementary School and the Minnewawa Health Center, this new clinic will bring the total number of UHC campuses in Southeast Fresno to three.

The clinic will offer services including primary care, COVID testing, treatment, and vaccinations.

Additionally, dental and chiropractic care, mental health, and psychiatry services, and extended urgent care hours will be available.

Patients will also benefit from free transportation to and from their appointments.

UHC president and CEO Justin Preas commended the collaboration with partners such as the City of Fresno, mayor Jerry Dyer, city manager Georgeanne White, the Fresno City Council, and councilmember Luis Chavez, whose district houses the three Southeast Fresno UHC clinics.

Chavez acknowledged UHC’s contribution in organising a COVID drive-thru test site that serviced over 2,200 vehicles in a single day, providing much-needed services to the community.

Chavez further said: “When we went through the pandemic, this zip code right here — 93705, 93706 and [937]27 — was designated as a COVID national hotspot, which meant that people from these neighbourhoods were getting sicker at a higher rate than other areas.

“We always knew about those discrepancies, about those inequities here, but it was so stark to see that in our community.”

During the ground-breaking ceremony, Justin Preas said: “Southeast Fresno is one of the most underserved areas of Fresno for health care services.

“UHC is honoured to be part of this expansion of services in Fresno.”
