The Indianapolis Colts didn’t know what to expect when they made rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson their starter to begin the 2023 NFL season. It was a bold move for the team, but it has paid off, with Richardson competing with C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans as the best rookie quarterback this season.
Unfortunately for Indianapolis, Richardson’s style of play has made him prone to injuries early in his NFL career. He’s already suffered a concussion and is now dealing with a shoulder injury, which will likely cost him some time. Richardson has an AC joint injury and will be out with no timetable yet via Stephen Holder of ESPN.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has an AC joint injury and will miss an undetermined amount of time, coach Shane Steichen said Monday.
At this point, the only thing the Colts are willing to say about Richardson’s status moving forward is that he won’t play against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6.
The Colts, Steichen said, are still conducting medical evaluations and a final timeline has not been established. But Richardson won’t play in the Week 6 road game against the Jaguars, the coach said.

New Colts head coach Shane Steichen doesn’t know how long Richardson will be stuck watching from the sideline.
“He will miss some time,” Steichen said. “How much time? I don’t know that right now and that’s all I’ve got on that situation.”
In the meantime, the Colts will go with veteran Gardner Minshew as their starter, which will likely still make them competitive moving forward.
