The Indianapolis Colts chose to roll the dice on a rookie quarterback this year, with the team having the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. That pick turned out to be Florida Gators star Anthony Richardson. It was a bold move for the franchise as he was arguably the most raw quarterback available.
However, the Colts likely aren’t looking back in disappointment, even though Richardson has struggled to stay healthy in the first few games of his NFL career. Richardson proved that he is the real deal and perhaps the next great dual-threat quarterback.

Unfortunately, his rookie season with the Colts appears to be over, with longtime team owner Jim Irsay saying that Richardson is probably headed toward season-ending shoulder surgery via ESPN.
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is “probably” going to miss the rest of the regular season and could undergo shoulder surgery in the next week or so, team owner Jim Irsay told ESPN on Monday.
This is obviously a devastating blow to the team’s hopes of making the NFL playoffs this year. The AFC South is seemingly being a division up for grabs this season. However Irsay doesn’t seem to be too disappointed with the outcome.

“The most likelihood is he’s probably going to be gone for the year,” Irsay said. “I mean, it’s not definite but [he] probably misses this year and we’re going to have to contend with that factor.”
With Richardson likely done for the year, the Colts will continue to turn to veteran Gardner Minshew as the starter moving forward, which isn’t a bad thing considering he’s played well outside of Week 6.
The Colts may still be in playoff contention even without Richardson.
