Clos Dalian Garnacha Blanca 2023 Review – Warm Climate White

Clos Dalian Garnacha Blanca 2023 Review – Warm Climate White

  • By Admin

Although we are not regular consumers of Spanish wines, we have to admit that Spanish white wines have been growing on us over the years.

As such, when we had a chance to try a Garnacha Blanca from Clos Dalian, we were excited to expand our tasting knowledge a bit more. For the reasonable price point, this was a delicious wine!

Clos Dalian Garnacha Blanca is a Great Value

Clos Dalian Garnacha Blanca

This Garnacha Blanca was pale gold with medium aromas of lemon, quince, pear, grapefruit, almond, saline, beeswax, white blossom, toast, and melon.

On the palate, it was dry with medium characteristics all around (acidity, body, flavor intensity, and alcohol), plus a long finish that hung around for a fair bit. We had flavors of lemon, lime, pear, wet stone, apricot, toast, saline, grapefruit, and white blossom.

We are starting to get into Spanish white wines more and more for their interesting flavors, and while this one was perhaps lacking a bit in the acidity department, the complex flavors and even more interesting aromas still made for a delightful sip all around.

Garnacha Blanca Food Pairing – Paella

Garnacha Blanca Food Pairing - Paella

We paired this Spanish white wine with a classic dish of homemade paella with shrimp, Andouille sausage, and chicken thigh made with homemade sofrito and ample saffron for good measure.

The rich paella really helped bring out more tropical notes like grapefruit and pineapple and almost made the wine seem a bit brighter all around despite the medium acidity. It was quite a good pairing, marked perhaps because the salinity in the wine went really nicely with the food as well.

Score 3.5 / 5

We’d buy a glass of this one and a bottle in the right circumstances.

Overall, this Garnacha Blanca certainly was an interesting wine and had some lovely flavors. We would always be happy if this one found its way into our glass, especially if we had a delicious dish like paella to go with it. But, given its reasonable price point, we could also be persuaded on a bottle, too.

Clos Dalian is located in Montsant, Spain. We purchased this bottle on Wine.com and enjoyed it in 2024.
