Clark Regional Hospital to expand ICU, surgical unit

Clark Regional Hospital has announced plans to expand its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Medical-Surgical Unit while discontinuing its Transitional Care Unit (TCU) services.

The ICU expansion will include 14 private rooms providing improved facilities for higher-acuity patients.

This expansion of nearly 3,500ft also provides a new space for surgical equipment storage.

Additionally, the Medical-Surgical Unit expansion will add 15 beds and repurpose about 15,000ft² of the former TCU space.

The expansion aims to accommodate more patients and transfers from smaller healthcare facilities in surrounding counties and avoid the need to transfer patients due to lack of space.

The newly renovated ICU and expanded surgical unit are expected to begin construction next month, with the TCU discontinuing operations on 1 August 2023.

Clark Regional Medical Center CEO Matt Smith said: “Our needs for medical care in our region are changing. Today, our community has many capable long-term care facilities and only one acute-care hospital.

“The expansion of our ICU and Medical-Surgical departments demonstrates our commitment to investing in our hospital to enhance services and meet the needs of our growing community for generations to come.

“The addition of these beds means that more patients can receive excellent quality care and treatment right here, close to home.”
