Chiefs have ‘a lot of optimisim’ about Rashee Rice’s status

  • By Admin

The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs came into the 2024 NFL season with high hopes of making a run at a third straight title. They would become the first team in the league to achieve that accomplishment, making NFL history.

So far, the Chiefs are off to a solid start, with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and company winning their first four games of the season before Week 5’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.

Although the Chiefs are firing on all cylinders right now, Kansas City has been dealing with a lot of injuries on the offensive side of the football. The Chiefs are currently without wide receivers Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice as well as running back Isiah Pacheco.

This isn’t great for a team that aspires to win a third straight title, but the team might’ve gotten some good news on Monday about Rice’s status, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.

The Kansas City Chiefs and wide receiver Rashee Rice have “a lot of optimism” that his knee injury isn’t as significant as initially feared and that his recovery timeline could be “much shorter” than first believed, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Although there’s a lot of optimism about Rice’s injury compared to what it was, Teicher makes it clear that he still will likely miss the rest of the season, which isn’t ideal.

It’s still unlikely Rice will play again this season, but doctors will not know for sure until they perform surgery Tuesday morning, the source said.

It remains to be seen what Rice’s status will be, but this is a bit more encouraging than it has been, which is all the defending champions could hope for at this point.
