Chaos Over Social Media Posts Claiming Malaysia Casino Got Halal Status

  • By Admin

A casino in Malaysia was in the spotlight after some people mistakenly thought the property’s halal compliance status it received for its restaurants also covered the gambling area.

It all started with Resorts World Genting’s Jom Makan Street Food and Jom Makan SkyAvenue eateries being named the Halal Champion of Pahang province.

Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia clarified the situation

A Facebook post started doing the rounds claiming that Genting got a halal certificate, which led to people questioning how this was possible for a gambling facility. The Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia clarified the situation with its own social media post, saying that the “halal certification has nothing to do with gambling as claimed online.”

Over 60% of Malaysia’s population is Muslim, and Islamic law prohibits all forms of gambling, which is why the Facebook post caused so much consternation.
