The new Irish Consultation on “Further Regulation of Tobacco & Nicotine Inhaling Products” has been launched.
All Irish vapers need to take part and get their voice heard to save flavours!
Sadly the consultation is only open to residents of Ireland – I did try to take part!!
Advocacy group Respect Vapers IE say the following…
“The Department of Health has launched a public consultation to seek the public’s opinions on the government’s proposal to ban flavoured vapes. Your views will be used to inform the Minister on a new vaping bill, which will regulate and potentially ban flavours, packaging, advertising and all disposable vapes.
The consultation is short and the majority of questions can be skipped if you wish. Just don’t forget to answer the question on flavours and make sure to explain how they’ve helped you and what you’ll do if they’re banned. Once that’s done, make sure to press the ‘Submit’ button at the end of the survey!”
Take part in the survey here https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/consultation-tobacco-nicotine-inhaling-products .
Survey closes at 5pm on the 5th January 2024 – so get your voice heard!
What Is The Survey About
Well it looks to me like the Irish government are slightly negative towards vaping.
The will be asking opinions on the following…
- The display of nicotine inhaling products in shops
- Nicotine inhaling product flavours
- The appearance of nicotine inhaling products
- Proxy sales of tobacco and nicotine inhaling products
- Smoking in outdoor dining areas
- Extending smoke free restrictions to vaping
- Increasing the age of sale for tobacco products
- Taxation of vapes
The results of this consultation will apparently inform the government decision making when it comes to further regulation of nicotine and tobacco. Also the government will be collection further evidence in reviews, legal advice and impact assessments.
They have a summary paper PDF here which you can read to gather more information on why the government has taken this step.
WVA Call To Action
The WVA (World Vaper’s Alliance) have also called for the Irish vaping community to defend vaping.
They say…
“… it is crucial that the vapers in Ireland speak up and let policymakers in Ireland know how vaping changed their lives and why stealing their adult choice will have a detrimental effect on public health.
The due date for the consultation is the 5th of January, after which the consultation report will be prepared based on the responses. The consultation results should be considered while developing future legislation on vaping.”
You can also find a guide on how to take part on the WVA website here.
