The median home price in California has reached $908,040 for May 2024 (data compiled by the California Association of Realtors – CAR.) That’s an 8.7% increase, year to year, from May 2023, when the median home price in the state was $835,280. The housing market saw 272,410 existing home sales, which represents a 6.0% decrease year-over-year (YTY) but remained unchanged year-to-date (YTD). The unsold inventory index stood at 2.6 months, reflecting a 23.8% increase year-over-year. Additionally, the median number of days homes spent on the market was 16 days, a 5.9% decrease from the same period last year.
The counties with May’s highest median prices are all in the Bay Area:
- San Francisco County: $1,745,000
- San Mateo County: $2,400,000
- Santa Clara County: $2,100,000
- Marin County: $1,800,000
The counties with the next highest median prices are:
- Orange County: $1,422,500
- Santa Cruz County: $1,355,000
- Santa Barbara County: $1,375,000
