Burnley vs West Ham Prediction: Turf Moor nightmare to continue?

After the final international break of 2023, the Premier League returns. With a stacked fixture list to look forward to, we have previewed Burnley vs West Ham (15:00 kick-off), as Vincent Kompany’s men strive to pull themselves away from the drop zone.

Burnley vs West Ham

  • West Ham to win @ 19/20
  • Over 3.5 goals @ 7/4

Team News

Lyle Foster continues his spell on the sidelines after taking some time away from the game to focus on his mental health, but aside from that, Vincent Kompany should have a fully fit squad to choose from.

The same can’t be said for David Moyes, who has lost Michail Antonio over the international break through a knee ligament injury. He picked up the injury and continued playing for 15 minutes, a fact that has infuriated the medical team at West Ham. Now he could be out for up to three months. Jarrod Bowen was also sent home from England’s camp early having picked up a minor knee issue, but he could return to face Burnley on Saturday.

Match Odds

Burnley are 5/2 to win this match, while the away side are 19/20 to take all three points. A draw can be backed at 5/2 while BTTS is 8/13 and over 2.5 goals is priced at 8/11.

West Ham to win @ 19/20

Even with their attacking injury issues, it is impossible to back against West Ham here. Well, more importantly, it doesn’t make sense to side with a woeful Burnley outfit who have lost every single league game they have played at Turf Moor this season. No Premier League side in history has ever lost their first six home games on the bounce, and now Kompany finds his team bottom of the league.

There just seems to be no resemblance to the side that won the Championship at a canter last term. Meanwhile, West Ham have got themselves up to ninth and enjoyed a win over Nottingham Forest before the break. They should have enough to get past a Burnley side that look out of their depth at this level.

Over 3.5 goals @ 7/4

This is actually my preferred selection out of the two tips today. West Ham enjoyed a 3-2 thriller against Forest last time out and lost 3-2 to Brentford in the league match prior to that. Meanwhile, Burnley lost 3-1 to Arsenal before the break, and have been beaten 4-1 by Chelsea and 5-2 by Spurs at Turf Moor already this season.

With a lack of defensive solidity from either side, I can see there being plenty of goals in this one. The price of 7/4 for over 3.5 goals tickles my fancy and gives us the benefit of not having to get the correct result.
