Browns Shorten to +2200 from +3000 & More Super Bowl Odds Movement

  • The Cleveland Browns hammered their in-state rival Cincinnati, improving their title odds to +2200
  • San Francisco thumps the Steelers to move into top three of the Super Bowl favorites
  • See below for the latest Super Bowl odds, and some of the wagers we like best

No matter how you slice, the early and late starts for Week 1 of the NFL season can only be described as eventful.

You had the San Francisco 49ers laying the wood to the Steelers on their turf, while the Eagles survived a topsy-turvy opener in New England.

There are questions surrounding the NFC North, as the Vikings stumbled, and the Green Bay Packers looked great in the debut of the Jordan Love era.

And then of course, the Sunday stunner was an absolute thrashing in Cleveland, as the Browns crushed the Bengals in the battle of Ohio.

It helped shorten their Super Bowl odds from +3000 to its current +2200.

Let’s look at the latest odds, and we’ll share our favorite wagers.

Browns Blast Bengals Week 1

I know it’s early, but Cleveland looked awfully good against the Bengals, winning 24-3.

The defense limited Joe Burrow to a staggering 82 yards passing on 31 attempts. He was mercifully lifted with with just over four minutes to play, having led just a single scoring drive all afternoon. He was sacked twice, part of 10 Cleveland hits on the quarterback Sunday.

Offensively, Deshaun Watson looked better than last year, throwing for 154 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while also running in a score.

Cleveland leaned heavily on the run game, as the Browns put up 206 yards on the ground. Nick Chubb led the way with 106 yards on 18 totes.

We’ll find out real quick if they’re for real, as Cleveland faces Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Baltimore and San Francisco the next four weeks. For now, taking a dip on them at +2200 sounds reasonable.

As for the Bengals, I wouldn’t worry too much about them. They lost to Cleveland in their first head-to-head last year too, and rolled all the way to the AFC title game. Taking them at these extended odds is definitely the play.

49ers All Business Sunday

Almost as equally impressive was San Francisco stomping out all that upset talk in Pittsburgh, hammering the Steelers 30-7. Brandon Aiyuk caught both Brock Purdy TD’s, as the Niners stormed out to a 20-0 lead.

They essentially put the game on ice when Christian McCaffrey broke one for 65 yards to the house to start the third quarter.

The defense made life miserable for Pittsburgh, holding them to 41 yards rushing, while Kenny Pickett was under siege, sacked five times and intercepted twice.

If you don’t have any juice on ‘Frisco already, +700 might be the longest odds they’ll be for a while, as the schedule shows the Rams, Giants and Cardinals next.

Upstarts That Have Our Attention

The Miami Dolphins’ offensive looked scary good in a 36-34 shootout win over the LA Chargers.

Tua Tagovailoa threw for 466 yards and three TD strikes, while Tyreek Hill was a blur all over the field, hauling in 11 balls for 215 yards and two TD’s, including the go-ahead score.

The defense did surrender 234 yards rushing, while Justin Herbert threw for another 228, but a team that can outscore their problems and have a defense that might need to make just a few stops a game are dangerous. Their odds shorten to +2000.

Jacksonville shortened from +2800 to +2200 odds after beating Indianapolis 31-21.

Calvin Ridley looked every bit the top target the Jags were hoping for, hauling in eight balls for 101 yards and a TD, while Trevor Lawrence threw for 241 yards, two scores and an interception.

The transition from Aaron Rodgers to Love went about as well as you could have hoped for, as the Packers belted the Bears. Love was 15-for-27 for 245 yards and three TD’s, while Aaron Jones had a rushing and receiving score.

Green Bay has talent at many levels on both sides of the ball, but that +4000 line didn’t move, as oddsmakers likely want to see them against other, non-Chicago competition.

The biggest mover was the Saints, who went from +4000 to +3000 odds after beating the Titans in a 16-15 slugfest at the Superdome.

Derek Carr is probably the best pivot in the NFC South, and he looked good, throwing for 305 yards with a TD and an interception.

We won’t really know how good these guys are for a while, but their odds could shorten as the year goes on, courtesy of the easiest schedule in the NFL, according to SBD’s NFL strength of schedule. Consider this a buyer beware bet.
