It’s back to the south coast for a six-race card from Brighton on the afternoon of Tuesday 4th July.
Competitive field sizes are the order of the day, and while it’s low grade action, there are winners to be found.
Selections
14:25 – Confils @ SP
Confils record at Brighton reads 1,1,4,1,3,5 and the prolific seven-year-old looks ready to add another course triumph to her tally.
George Baker’s charge scored back-to-back victories on the south coast in May, and the style in which she kept on to score on firm ground in the latest of those wins, suggests that there may still be more to come off a mark of 65.
Confils was slowly away upped in grade at Sailsbury last time out, but she can prove far better than that under ideal conditions back on the south coast.
15:55 – Gustav Ucicky @ SP
There are some unexposed runners from powerful yards in the three-year-old handicap over just shy of seven furlongs at 15:55, but it may pay to side with a proven performer.
Gustav Ucicky stayed on well to score over five-and-a-half-furlongs at Sailsbury five days ago and the three-year-old carries a six pound penalty for the victory on Tuesday afternoon. The style of the success suggests that the step up in trip could bring about further improvement on just his third run for Mick Appleby.
Conditions and the track should be fine for Gustav Ucicky, and with only two previous winners in the field, his rivals have plenty to prove.
16:30 – Voodoo Ray @ SP
Voodoo Ray set a pretty strong pace when just about making all to score over course and distance seven days ago and a five pound penalty is unlikely to stop Gary Moore’s improving four-year-old.
Ravi Road, who finished three-quarters-of-a length behind Voodoo Ray last week, reopposes on Tuesday, and that duo finished well ahead of the field last time out.
However, Ravi Road was held up and picked up the pieces of the strong pace set by Voodoo Ray and the feeling is that Moore’s charge is the improving performer.
Voodoo Ray runs off a lowly mark of 46, plus the five pound penalty, and it would be a surprise if the four-year-old didn’t prove a fair bit better than that rating.
