Both teams to score
Brentford are looking to bounce back from an underwhelming 2023/24 campaign that saw them finish 16th and the early signs suggest they could provide plenty of entertainment.
All five of the Bees’ pre-season games have seen both teams find the back of the net and that includes a 5-2 success at AFC Wimbledon and a 4-4 draw with Wolfsburg in their most recent friendly.
Palace should also head into the new campaign with plenty of positivity after ending last season with six wins and a draw from their final seven games to secure a top-half finish.
The Eagles appear to be a more open and attacking side under Oliver Glasner, as they have averaged over two goals-per-game under the German, and despite losing the creative powers of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich over the summer, they still boast the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eberechi Eze within their arsenal.
The last four meetings between these two sides have seen both teams score and that trend can continue on Sunday.
Ivan Toney to score any time
Despite another summer of transfer speculation, as it stands Ivan Toney remains a Brentford player and the England international should lead the line for the Bees on Sunday.
After playing his part in his country’s run to the final of Euro 2024, Toney will be keen to make a strong start to the new season, especially after he failed to score in his final 12 league appearances last term.
That drought should not dent the 28-year-old’s belief, as he has netted more goals than any Brentford player since their return to the Premier League and, as their regular penalty taker, he will be confident of finding the back of the net against Palace.
Daniel Munoz to be carded
Colombia international Daniel Munoz played his part in Palace’s resurgence under Glasner after himself joining from Belgian club Genk during the winter transfer window.
Munoz provided four assists in 16 league games for the Eagles during 2023/24, but he was also booked four times, including in their final away match of the campaign at Wolves.
The 28-year-old was also in the thick of the action for his country at this summer’s Copa America, producing three goal involvements before his tournament ended on a sour note, as he was sent off in the semi-final against Uruguay and missed the showpiece game with Argentina as a result.
It certainly appears hard to keep Munoz quiet, but with the likes of Mateta, Eze and Palace new boy Ismaila Sarr to contend with on Sunday, he is perhaps, on this occasion, more likely to pick up a card than a goal or an assist.
