  • Seattle is the favorite with -130 moneyline odds
  • Read below for the Blue Jays vs Mariners odds and prediction

It will feel like a home game for the Toronto Blue Jays (54-43, 27-23 away) when they head to the Pacific Northwest for the opener of a three-game set Friday against the Seattle Mariners (48-48, 27-24 home), the same team who knocked them out of the postseason in 2022. The first pitch here is scheduled for 10:10 PM ET at T-Mobile Park.

A familiar face to the M’s will be on the mound as Yusei Kikuchi gets the ball for the visitors. Seattle counters with rookie Bryce Miller.

Toronto vs Seattle Probable Pitchers

Kikuchi is having a respectable 2023 and will have the opportunity to stick it to his former team here. The Japan native is 7-3 with a 4.13 ERA in 19 starts, striking out 100 in 98 innings while walking 30. The home run ball has been an issue though, allowing 22 of them so far.

While the lefty didn’t collect the win last time out against the Diamondbacks, he did toss 4.2 innings, giving up just one earned run. The only reason Kikuchi didn’t last longer was due to the free passes and high pitch count. This is the first time he’ll face Seattle, the same organization he came up with after a lengthy career in Japan.

Kikuchi vs Miller Stats

Yusei Kikuchi
VS
Bryce Miller
7-3 Record 6-3
4.13 ERA 3.66
98 Innings Pitched 64
100 Strikeouts 58
30 Walks 13

Miller is proving to be a reliable arm for the M’s in his rookie year. He owns a 6-3 record and a 3.66 ERA while posting an impressive WHIP of just 0.97. His control is also phenomenal, only issuing 13 free passes in 64 innings while striking out 58 in 64 frames.

The former Texas A&M standout is fresh off a dominant outing against the Tigers, throwing five scoreless and grabbing his sixth win in the process. He’s never faced the Blue Jays before but does have a 2.84 ERA at home. That’s a good sign.

Home Series For Toronto

As previously mentioned, tons of Jays fans from north of the border will be heading to Seattle to support Toronto, which is always an awesome environment for the players which almost serves as a home series for the team. Considering their cold skid against Seattle, that should certainly help.

The Blue Jays just dropped two of three to the San Diego Padres but did win the finale on Thursday by a score of 4-0. Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Alejandro Kirk propelled the offense with homers, while Chris Bassitt twirled an absolute gem with six scoreless innings.

Seattle Still in the Playoff Picture

The Mariners, like the Jays, have struggled to find consistency this season. However, they’re just five games out of first in the AL West and remain in the Wild Card race, too.

Seattle did just suffer a crushing blow though as Jarred Kelenic broke his foot Wednesday after kicking a water cooler in frustration. That could result in the M’s going out and acquiring another outfielder at the trade deadline. Scott Servais’ group also salvaged one win in their series with the Twins, blanking Minnesota 5-0 on Thursday.

Blue Jays vs Mariners Prediction

I don’t have much belief in Kikuchi and Miller tends to dominate at T-Mobile. Take the Mariners moneyline.

Pick: Mariners moneyline (-130)
