While the spotlight will be on Royal Ascot from Tuesday, there is still plenty of racing to get stuck into across the UK and Ireland, with no fewer than six meetings scheduled.
Beverley is one of those meetings and, despite some recent rain, the going is expected to be good and we have picked out three selections to peruse.
Beverley Tips:
18:15 – Sub Rosa @ SP
The signs are positive for Roger Varian’s SUB ROSA, who continues to make strides after a relatively slow start to her career.
The three-year-old finished fourth of 10 at Newmarket last October before Varian and his team handed her a 219-day break.
She finished a disappointing fifth at Haydock in May, only to show signs of improvement at Lingfield earlier this month.
She was beaten a short head by Wall Game less than 10 days ago, and connections clearly feel the time is now to strike.
Tuesday’s trip to Beverley should provide the ideal opportunity for Sub Rosa to shed the maiden tag, and her recent displays will have given Varian the confidence he needs ahead of the contest.
18:45 – How Bizarre @ SP
While Sub Rosa has been gently introduced to the start of her career, HOW BIZARRE is set to race for the 15th time this year on Tuesday.
Trainer Liam Bailey has sent his stable star to Southwell on nine occasions, while he has also competed at Newcastle, Musselburgh, Hamilton and Catterick.
A win at Musselburgh last month suggests he may prefer to run on grass, and he is only 3lb higher than that success.
By the looks of things the majority of the runners need to find something in order to compete, while How Bizarre could return to the winners’ enclosure if he can produce a similar display to when he won at Musselburgh.
20:45 – Sun Festival @ SP
SUN FESTIVAL’S form since the start of May has been massively impressive, and the five-year-old seems to be getting better every time he returns to the track.
After finishing fifth at Brighton on May 3, he then finished fourth at Lingfield before claiming second spot at Windsor and Wolverhampton.
He eventually returned to winning ways at Brighton on June 9, finishing two lengths ahead of Global Style.
Joseph Parr’s runner has to be considered once again, with the handicapper only adding 1lb for that success on the south coast. Connections are clearly trying to strike while the iron is hot and Sun Festival should prove too much for his rivals.
