Seven flat races from gorgeous Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire on Friday evening (5.10 – 8.45pm). Serial winners like Paul Mulrennan, Clifford Lee and Oisin Orr are among the jocks in action, and we’re not doing too badly for runners.
Fabulous, quirky track. Low numbers are handy when the ground is riding good or better, but with cut they can come nearside up the straight. Tough, genuine, resolute types thrive here.
What would be fantastic is if we could pinpoint a couple that might just do the business for us on Friday night. Here goes;
Selections;
5.10 Ziggy’s Queen
Middleham Park Racing, Oisin Orr, and trained by Richard Fahey. If you wanted to build an identikit Beverley scorer those elements would be no hindrance whatsoever.
Promising debut at Nottingham followed by a cracking effort, narrowly beaten, at Ripon. She sets the standard, and can get on the scoresheet on Friday evening.
7.00 Opera Legend
William Haggas has booked Joe Fanning, in vintage form of late, and after decent efforts at 7f and 10f we could well be about to see the best of him at just over a mile. Should suit to a tee, given his run style over the last two outings.
Only a fifth lifetime start, so plenty of room for improvement from this powerful yard.
Have a brilliant evening’s racing in Yorkshire. Take care, and good luck.
