Barnet vs Oldham Prediction: Take the Latics for the upset
With the international break over, there isn’t much football over the rest of midweek but there is a bonus game on Wednesday night from the National League as Barnet host Oldham Athletic live on TNT Sports (20:00).
Second placed Barnet at The Hive Stadium against 10th placed Oldham, easy home win isn’t it surely?
Well, not according to form, after Dean Brennan’s side have lost back-to-back games against league rivals Chesterfield and again against Woking on Saturday.
Those results could leave the Bees eight points behind the Spireites, if the leaders win again on Tuesday evening. With just one team automatically promoted, it’s essentially that they don’t let Chesterfield gain too big a points gap.
Meanwhile, Oldham are unbeaten in their last three and are slowly making their way up the table, with new boss Micky Mellon’s team just found points off the playoffs.
Will Barnet get back on track or can Oldham continue their march towards the playoffs?
Team news
Jerome Okimo, Gary Hooper and Callum Stead are all pushing for a starting berth, after two straight losses for the Bees.
Oldham are sweating over the fitness of several players, with Hallam Hope suffering from an illness, while Alex Reid and Shaun Hobson both missed the loss to Woking.
Match odds
Barnet are 5/6 favourites to win this one in front of there home fans, with Oldham Athletic 13/5 outsiders. The draw is available at 5/2. Goals look on the card with over 2.5 as short as 8/13.
Draw/Oldham Double Chance – 9/10
It’s a sad state of affairs to see a side of Oldham’s stature in the National League but they’re not the first big ex-league side and they certainly won’t be the last.
However, it appears that shoots of recovery are on the horizon with the sale of the club to local businessman Frank Rothwell and the purchase of Boundary Park from the ex-owner.
Results on the pitch have been iffy but there are also signs of a turnaround under Micky Mellon and I feel they can get something here against a Barnet side who have struggled in recent games.
The Latics won the same fixture 3-1 last season and the double chance gives us the draw as a bit of a fallback.
Oldham to win 2-1 – 11/1
Doubling down on the first tip and I fancy Oldham to win by the odd goal.
Both teams should get on the scoresheet, with BTTS as short as 4/7 and the 11/1 on the 2-1 correct score is tempting.
