Athletic Bilbao vs Celta Vigo Prediction: Hosts too strong for Celta

 | November 09 |

2 mins read

Athletic Bilbao are seeking to make it three wins on the bounce when they host Celta Vigo at San Mames Stadium on Friday night (20:00).

Bilbao are currently fifth in the table, while the visitors have endured a tough start to the campaign that sees them languishing in 18th place.

Athletic Bilbao vs Celta Vigo Prediction

  • Athletic Bilbao to win and both teams to score (yes) @ 12/5
  • Inaki Williams to score anytime @ 6/4

Team News

Raul Garcia, Ander Herrera and Yeray Alvarez are all on the sidelines for the hosts due to injury, while Yuri Berchiche is also a major doubt for this game.

As for Celta,  Joseph Aidoo remains a long-term absentee due to a serious knee injury, while Mihailo Ristic is expected to miss out here due to a muscular problem.

Match Odds

Bilbao are favourites to win the game at 4/7, while Celta can be backed at 5/1 and the draw is 3/1.

The hosts won this fixture 2-1 last season, and a repeat of that scoreline is 7/1.

Over 2.5 goals is priced up 4/5, while it’s 10/11 for the under 2.5 goals market.

Athletic Bilbao to win and both teams to score (yes) @ 12/5

The Basque team are unbeaten at San Mames since an opening round 2-0 loss to Real Madrid with three wins and two draws in five outings. They moved into fifth spot with a 3-2 win at Villarreal on Sunday.

Ultimately, I think Bilbao will have too much quality for their opponents on Friday, but I do think both teams can get on the scoresheet.

Goals have gone in at both ends in three of Athletic Bilbao’s last five home La Liga matches, while both teams have also scored in four of Celta’s five away league games this term.

In addition, Rafa Benitez’s men have netted in four of their five away trips this term.

Inaki Williams to score anytime @ 6/4

The Ghana striker is Bilbao’s top goalscorer so far this term, with five strikes in 12 appearances in La Liga.

He scored in the 3-2 win over Villarreal on Sunday, so he comes into this game in decent form.

The 29-year-old netted in the 2-1 victory over Celta last season, as well as recording an assist, so he’ll fancy his chances of adding to his goal tally against a team he’s already had joy against.
