One of the most famous and prestigious horse races anywhere in the world. Looks a very competitive renewal to me, and precious little separates the top quartet in the market.

As I write it’s 10/3 Coltrane, 7/2 Eldar Eldarov, 5/1 Courage Mon Ami, same price 5/1 Emily Dickinson, and it’s 10s bar those quoted.

I’ve plumped for Courage Mon Ami, each-way. A lightly-raced son of Frankel, he won well at Goodwood last month but is up massively in class, and distance. More likely types perhaps like Coltrane and Eldar Eldarov have shown us what they can do, and maybe it’s time for a new kid on the block.

Massive respect for Coltrane in particular, and it will be fascinating to see how impressive 2021 champion Subjectivist fares, on his comeback trail. Red-hot Joe Fanning rides for the Johnston team. He’s especially lethal if given a soft, dictating lead.

Eldar Eldarov is a former St Leger hero, and Emily Dickinson is fascinating, with Aidan O’Brien’s charge looking to stretch out over this extreme trip. She could be extremely dangerous, and has an undoubted touch of class. In my view this is a very strong and hugely intriguing renewal.

Good luck with whatever you plump for – I’m hoping Frankie’s got at least one more flying dismount at the Royal meeting in his locker!
