Arsenal vs Sevilla Prediction: Nketiah can power angry Gunners
It’s match-day four in the Champions League and on Wednesday night (20:00) we have a cracking looking tie in Group B, where Arsenal host Sevilla. We’ve previewed this contest and given you our best bets for the occasion.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta exploded like never before at the weekend and will still be silently raging inside, following one of the most bizarre VAR incidents you are likely to see on a football pitch on Saturday night, which saw the Gunners lose their unbeaten tag against Newcastle. They will now look to channel that anger into a positive response on Wednesday night and put an out-of-form Sevilla to the sword.
The seven-time Europa League champions qualified for this competition as a result of that trophy win but have found themselves outclassed and are winless in the tournament to date. Diego Alonso’s men are also struggling domestically, with just two wins from their opening 11 games and are sat down in 15th spot in La Liga.
The Emirates Stadium will be a hot-bed of emotion on Wednesday night, with the locals feeling unfairly beaten at the weekend and keen to adopt a siege mentality. Could poor Sevilla be on the other end of that mindset?
Team news
Arteta has quite a few injury issues, with Gabriel Jesus, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey joining Jurrien Timber on the treatment table. It’s unclear if Martin Odegaard has recovered from the problem, that forced him to miss out on the Newcastle game at the weekend.
Sevilla are without central defender Marcao and he could be joined by another centre-back, as the veteran Sergio Ramos is also an injury doubt.
Match odds
The Gunners are big favourites for this home game at 3/10, with the visitors a strong outsider at 17/2 and the draw at 9/2.
The Betfred traders are expecting plenty of goals with over 2.5 goals at 8/15 and over 3.5 at just 5/4. Both teams to score is on a knife-edge with both yes and no at 5/6.
Arsenal -2 Handicap – 21/10
Arsenal only just squeezed past Sevilla in the last Champions League fixture, winning 2-1 despite a late David Raya aberration in goals.
I think this one will be a totally different affair though and Arsenal will feel like they have a point to prove, after losing two straight games in all competitions.
I expect them to come firing out of the blocks, in front of a raucous crowd and rack up some early goals. I like them to cover a two goal handicap given how poor Sevilla have been in recent games.
Eddie Nketiah 2+ shots on target – 5/4
Gabriel Jesus is still injured so it will be the Englishman who leads the line here.
Nketiah looked in magnificent form in the recent game against Sheffield United, netting a hat-trick and was a real handful.
With the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli providing the ammunition here, Nketiah could have another field day.
