All the boxing you can watch on UK TV this week including start times, channels and odds
Boxing fans are spoiled with no end of huge fights at the moment. Artur Beterbiev’s win over Callum Smith, Natasha Jonas edging past Mikaela Mayer, Joshua Buatsi’s thriller with Dan Azeez and Teofimo Lopez’s controversial decision over Jamaine Ortiz are just a sample of what we’ve enjoyed in 2024.
There is more to come too. Amanda Serrano is out again in March, as are heavy-hitters Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou. Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia confirmed their April showdown this week too.
You’d be forgiven for thinking this week is a respite from top boxing action. But if you scratch the surface you’ll find several fights worth watching that have flown under the radar. Here is the Betfred Insights Viewing Guide, which will make sure you don’t miss a punch.
Joseph Diaz Jr vs Jesus Perez
Date: Thursday, February 15
UK Time: 2am Friday
Channel: DAZN
Odds: Diaz 1/7, Perez 9/2, Draw 16/1
Former world champion Joseph Diaz Jr looks to continue his rebuild as he faces Jesus Perez. A 2021 loss to Devin Haney kicked off a run of three consecutive defeats that looked to have derailed his world title ambitions for good.
Diaz got back on the rails with a unanimous decision win over Jerry Perez last time out. Jesus Perez is another opponent designed to make Diaz look good as he tries to get back into contention. Nights like this won’t determine how much losses to Haney and William Zepeda took out of him. Those tests are to come.
O’Shaquie Foster vs Abraham Nova
Date: Friday, February 16
UK Time: 1am Saturday
Channel: Sky Sports Action
Odds: Foster 1/10, Nova 13/2, Draw 20/1
O’Shaquie Foster makes the second defence of his WBC super featherweight championship in this one. At one stage it looked like Foster may never reach this level. A pair of early-career losses in eight-rounders looked like consigning him to the also-ran column.
But ‘Ice Water’ has recovered well, going undefeated in 11 fights and picking up a world title along the way. Foster dethroned Rey Vargas last February in a career-best performance. The Texas stylist then solidified his place at world level with a TKO win over Eduardo Hernandez in the 12th round of a topsy-turvy encounter.
Nova is not the most robust challenger, having been knocked out in five rounds by Robeisy Ramirez in 2022. He has two wins since, but Foster is the pick here to retain his championship.
Adrian Curiel vs Sivenathi Nontshinga II
Date: Friday, February 16
UK Time: 1am Saturday
Channel: DAZN
Odds: Curiel 4/6, Nontshinga 13/10, Draw 16/1
For those in the know, Adrian Curiel’s two-round destruction of Sivenathi Nontshinga was one of the upsets of 2024. Hardened on the unforgiving Mexican scene, Curiel had been beaten four times in his career going in and had never competed in a scheduled 12-rounder.
Less than six minutes into his contest with Nontshinga, he was the IBF light flyweight champion of the world. The dethroned kingpin had been knocked down before, by Hector Flores in his title-winning effort, but had never lost in 12 fights. What was supposed to be a stepping stone to bigger fights instead ended his title reign in brutal fashion.
Nontshinga gets a chance to put things right here, though the dominance of Curiel sees him as the bookmaker’s favourite. But given the fact he struggled to a technical draw with 15-9 Jose Ramirez last June, I personally feel the class of Nontshinga will tell this time and he will regain his championship. Anyone for a trilogy?
