We are back with our 2023 NFL season previews and this article will cover the AFC South. While this division does not have a bunch of talented teams, that doesn’t mean there isn’t value available in the NFL futures betting markets.
Jacksonville Jaguars
$1.57 at Sportingbet
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a team on the rise, and their young group of stars flashed their potential last season when they won a playoff game and finished 9-8. They should be better this season, but as massive favorites to win the division, they don’t offer any value. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the offense won’t be the problem, but this defense lacks talent in key areas and cannot be trusted. At $1.57, we will stay away.
Tennessee Titans
$5.00 at Sportingbet
Last year was a mess for the Tennessee Titans. They had a ton of injuries and lost a bunch of close games, finishing with a 7-10 record. However, Ryan Tannehill should be back, and while he is not the best quarterback around, he led the Titans to six straight campaigns with at least nine wins prior to last year’s dip. Also, the Titans will have a coaching advantage in most games, while the signing of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins could give them a big boost on offense. At $5.00, we love Tennessee to win the division.
The Titans are paying as much as $2.05 to go over 7.5 total wins, and considering their success before last season, we like that bet. The Titans will grind teams down with running back Derrick Henry, and their defense projects to be middle of the pack. If they can come away with some of the close games that slipped away from them last year, they should easily cover this line.
Indianapolis Colts
$5.75 at Sportingbet
After years of miring in mediocrity, the Indianapolis Colts finally took a rookie quarterback and started their rebuilding plan. While they have a strong roster, QB Anthony Richardson should have a lot of growing pains in adjusting to the NFL, and that makes the Colts a strong avoid this season. Indianapolis finished 4-12-1 last season and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them do something similar this year.
With that said, Indianapolis are paying around $2.04 odds to go under 6.5 wins this season, and that looks a good play with the top NFL betting sites. The Colts are building for the future and their prospects for this season do not look great. Although they have some star players on offense, they have a new coach and a new quarterback. That spells trouble, so take the under at plus money.
Houston Texas
$8.50 at Sportingbet
The Texans were among the worst teams in the league last year, and that should not change. They are $8.50 to win the division and, like the Colts, will also be adjusting to a rookie quarterback. While C.J. Stroud should be a strong player in the future, Houston’s roster is quite poor and they won’t be very competitive this year. They should be avoided in all future bets as they continue to build out their young squad.
