Baraou
A European champion and World bronze medalist in the amateurs, Germany’s Baraou had been tipped for championship stardom in the pros. Wins over Carlos Molina, John O’Donnell and Ali Funeka depicted a man on the right path. But Baraou’s 2020 split decision loss to former world champion Jack Culcay proved to be a setback.
Baraou’s record is unblemished since, with five wins and four stoppages providing a course correction. The Culcay fight came too soon and Baraou still gave a good account of himself. Now he aims to add the European crown to his mantle before pursuing world honours.
Eggington
The West Midlander has enjoyed the highs and endured the lows throughout his storied career. Eggington has held the British, Commonwealth, European and IBO crowns, taking big name scalps along the way. He has stopped the likes of Paulie Malignaggi and Frankie Gavin in major upsets.
But Eggington has also felt the sting of defeat, losing dramatic wars to the likes of Ted Cheeseman and Liam Smith over the years. Still only 30 years of age, Eggington recalibrates as he attempts to snare a European title at a second weight. Once again he comes into a big fight as the underdog. But as the likes of Malignaggi will tell you, that hasn’t stopped Sam in the past.
