A Cheap, Third-party USB-C Charging Cable that Charges Your iPad Pro Well

A Cheap, Third-party USB-C Charging Cable that Charges Your iPad Pro Well

My Havend CEO Eddy ran into this problem that you might have encountered.

He has an iPad Pro that should belong to the 2021 series.

If we use third-party USB-C charging cables, the iPad Pro either doesn’t charge or charges very slowly. This is weird because we don’t have charging problems with iPhones with normal third-party cables that fast charge our smartphones and even charge our laptops.

I bought a bunch of 100W USB-C charging cable for office and we tried all and they don’t charge.

One day, Eddy plugged his iPad into one brand and type of cable that I bought to be used in our meeting suites and he realized suddenly that his iPad is charging significantly faster!

We thought that you might be searching for something similar so we would like to highlight which cable we found that charges his iPad Pro well.

Why is it so Hard to Buy Third Party Charging Cables for IPad Pro?

There are a few reasons.

  1. Made for iPhone/iPad Certification: A certification by Apple that ensures third-party accessories, including charging cables, meet their standards for safety and performance. If they are not certified, they are either slower, cause device overheating, or cause cable to wear down fast.
  2. Fail to meet power and data requirements: iPad pro models, especially those with USB-C ports, have very unique power requirements of either 18W or 30W for fast charting. Your cable must support fast charging.
  3. Apple’s Proprietary Technology: The cable possibly has chips that help regulate power. In a way, this may be Apple’s way of preventing you from using third party cables.

The Cable We Found that Charges the IPad Pretty Well

Okay, we are not sure about other brands or where to buy it from but this is the charging cable that works on his iPad Pro:

This is a 100W USB-C to USB-C cable.

It costs between SG$1.77 to SG$3.75 depending on whether you choose 0.25 meter to 3 meters.

We use it with a 67W GAN Charger:

Toocki 67W GAN USB C Charger.

This comes up to SG$20.

Your choice of the Gan charger is less important. We tried with other brand of Gan charger we bought and they work pretty well.

Please don’t ask me what makes this Essager cable so special that it can charge the iPad Pro well. It is not the E-marker, which means the cable has a chip embedded to help regulate power and data transfer.

Other failed cables we tried also had those.

Apparently, this is the one that works on Eddy’s IPad Pro.

This combination also charges most laptops that require 65W power. This combination is very portable and you can bring them with you or when you travel for holiday. The 3 meter cable option can be irritating but can be very convenient.

Buying and shipping from AliExpress is a breeze. Just select and check out and the thing will be shipped to you. You can use your Singapore credit card.
