Lemon Myrtle, probably the best know bush botanical edible, is often referred to as the “Queen of the Bush Herbs”. It’s intensely citrus flavour and aroma, has been used in Aboriginal cuisine and medicine for thousands of years.. Its is a subtropical rainforests plant of central and south-eastern Queensland.
Saying that is does grow as far south as Victoria. If you can plant it out of the strong winds and away from frosts lemon myrtle can be quite happy in this temperate environment.
At the Wild Food Farm we Grow it between hedgerows of Lilli Pilli which protects if from the bitter winter winds. Fortunately on Phillip Island we dont get frosts because of the location near to the ocean.
